A laproscopic procedure is less involved than open incision and hospital stay and recovery are generally much shorter, so this is good.
Ask your current doctor what is his plan if during surgery the cyst looks or pathology says it is not benign? Will a gyn onc be available for consult and surgery?
If you don't like his answer, then see a gyn onc.
They say listen to your body. It is most likely benign, but better safe than sorry, I say.
btw, tsh and serum k+ showed normal. t4 results will be out on monday. i have yet to see the neurologist on monday, too, since all neurologists here are at a convention.
i went to see another ob-gyne for a second opinion and, basically, i was told the same thing except that, according to the 2nd doctor, since my menstrual cycle is regular and i'm on the pill, the cyst could dissolve in 2-3 cycles. therefore, i am given the option to wait out and observe. however, the catch is that i won't be able to travel, as scheduled this christmas. also, i was given the laproscopic surgery as an alternative to open surgery.
further, i was told to have another tvs, just to have a comparison, then see the ob-gyne who will do the laproscopic surgery. from what i was told, this is less invasive and recovery is faster.
another concern is that i have to be cleared by both my nephrologist and neurologist. as earlier mentioned, my back pains has been persistent. abdominal pains due to the cyst is there but tolerable. however, my lower extremities, particularly hip area and the back of the lower legs feel numb and strained. in fact, i could hardly move because my knees feel wobbly. my arms, likewise, feel tired. could this be connected to the cyst or is there another underlying factor i need to consider?
going back to the cyst, the 2nd doctor said that it looks benign as she didn't seem to be too concerned. and, yes, the cyst will be biopsied, being a standard procedure. you mentioned a gynecological oncologist. perhaps i should come see one. would this be advisable??
i may be a little paranoid, i think. could it be i'm just imagining all the pains just because i know that something is wrong in my body?? nonetheless, this is a pretty simple procedure, right?? no cause for alarm?? again, my sister died of leukemia and cancer does run in my maternal side of the family.
They can remove only the cyst, but sometimes if the cyst is enveloping the ovary or has caused some damage, the ovary would also have to be removed. This is not really a bad thing though. You can loose one or even one and part of the other ovary and still retain fertility. If doctor is doing surgery laproscopically, you will be in hospital a day and recovery is generally 1-2 weeks.
I would discuss with your doctor about what happens if during surgery the cyst looks suspicious for malignanacy or something. Does the hospital have a gynecological oncologist available for consultation. This is very important, even if the doctor is confident it is benign.
Good luck and keep us posted.
thanks for the reply, casey06.
i had my tv-ultrasound today and the cyst measured 7.7 x 6.9 x 6.0 cm and was recommended for immediate surgery. according to my ob-gyne, it seems benign but a biopsy will be done as sop. she says i have to do it soon and since i'll be out of the country for christmas she says travel is not advisable unless i have it done.
however, when i went back to my nephrologist, he would not give me the go signal yet cause my urine cs result showed no growth after 48 hours incubation. therefore, mine wasn't an infection but seems more like an inflammation of something.
because i was feverish the past couple of days and my lower extremities felt numb and shaky whenever i try to stand our walk, i was referred to a neurologist and additional tests were made --- t4 (113), tsh (thyroid stimulating hormone), and serum k+.
i will know on monday if i will go through the surgery next week. only the cyst will be removed, i presume, and not the entire ovary, right?? i was told that without complications, i would be out of the hospital in 3 days. any thoughts??
Ovoid, means egg shaped and three diminsional, so just a term used to describe the masses shape.
Right Adnexa means female parts and area to the right of the uterus.
So you have a mass or cyst (they use the word mass because it is more generic) to the right of your uterus.
They think itis most likely originating from the right ovary.
It is good you are having a follow-up TVUS, they are very good at imaging cysts or masses.
At this point I would not be too worried (easier said then done), because most likely it is a benign cyst. Doctor will know more after the US.
Good luck and keep us posted. Waiting is a little hard though.
