post op ovarian cancer my died

I dont understand, my mum had op, for very advanced ovarian cancer, only certain parts removed, so that she could get chemo quickly then maybe a further op. After op, she was very unwell, very fast heart rate and her health went down hill, the day after, she was sent to intensive care, put on the drip, and anti biotics, she had a infection, she did not pass a great deal of urine, so they expected kidney failure.

I felt although she did not wake, she was fighting the infection, her check sounded better, oxygen

Her op was on a Wednesday, by the Tuesday we were told she would not recover, I got them to put her on nutrients a week after the op,

My dad did not want to prolong any suffering, so he asked to stop fluids and put her on morphine - I disagreed, as obviously this would send her to sleep

I dont understand why she went down hill so quickly after the op and I have lost her ?

I appreciate she was very weak and could not really walk far before the operation, and I only wish she had acted sooner and had things checked out

Could more of been done ?

Exactly the same thing happened to my aunt Parvathi. She is 64, got op on sept 9th and after 2 weeks she became so weak and unable to pass motion.Docter promised me she will survive for atleast 6 months so I traveled to US before couple of weeks for a short term. But today she passed away. Im facing my wost time of my life. She is 5th victim of our family to cancer(4 already passed away and all 5 are sibling's). Now, i regret for the op.

First I want to offer you my sympathy on the loss of your mum.  Ovarian Cancer is such a sneaky thing, and all too often, women wait until it is in advanced stages to realize something isn't right.  It's possible more may have been done had she been seen earlier, but that is a question that really cannot be answered for sure.  If your mum was in advances stages, her doctors probably only wanted to do as much surgery as they thought she could handle, then try chemo to shrink any tumors not removed.  It's possible other factors may have played a part in slow recovery.  You suspect a kidney infection. For most, that is something antibiotics can take care of without any further problems.  But in your mum's ill state, it just added stress to her body.  Age also plays a part.  You don't mention how old she was, but the regular aging process we all go through tends to make us weaker the older we get.

I wish someone could give you some definite answers, as I know this is weighing heavily on your mind.  I do pray for comfort for you and your family, and hope you find some peace.
