post-surgery elevation of CA 125

I got operated on 4th Dec 2006 for bilateral ovarian ca. I went through 6 cycles of chemo - 3 before and 3 after. The response has been very good throughout with CA 125 levels hovering between 7 and 11. However, my latest test - 17 months later show normal ultra-sound but elevated CA 125 at 53.7. What does this indicate - what are the possible interpretations of this? Regards, Neelam

I would recommend going on monthly ca-125 draws to see if there is an upwards trend.  My Onc has them done every three months, but once it is out of the normal range he begins testing monthly to see if it continues to rise.  If it does then he usually will order a ct scan to look for disease progression.  Good luck...call your Onc and ask him how he wants to approach this test result.~~~~Joanne

It is importtant to look at the trend of ca125, not just a single test.  I would suggest to have ca125 tested again to see whether it is still true or just a one time thing, since there are so many factors can increas ca125 reading , such as inflamation, some diet too.
