reoccurance of borderline/ low malignancy potential in bowel ;-(

Sadly I am back here in little over a year with a reoccurance of my borderline mucinous tumor 1C. I under went proper staging (with a second opinion on the pathology ) and a complete hysterectomy in June last year aged 32 and yet an MRI and CT scan have showed growths in my bowel. I also have a  painful swollen area low down on my left side which they are not sure what it is yet- reports from scan just say "thickened tissue". The scans were prompted by the pain and my ca 125 was rising gently (didn't know previously if this was a marker for me or not).

My consultant plans open surgery and removing it all in a few weeks which will mean a full length midline incision and bowel resections. He won't do chemo/radio if it is all still borderline. I feel quite terrified and sorry for myself as borderlines are supposed to have such a "good" prognosis. My tumor ruptured which is why I presume I have been unlucky. I feel scared for my two little girls who do not understand why I have to go into hospital again.

Anyone else in a similair situation or have any words of wisdom??

Thanks Charlie, nice to hear from another borderline lady and particularly one in the UK. I'm having this surgery done in Cheltenham which is almost 2 hours away from home. Not great for visitors but there is no choice as local hospital don't seem to have expertise to deal with me now. I got the date today it's going to be done on the 11th August.

I'll have a look at Ovacome, thanks for the tip. Now off to eat cake as I need to gain weight for the surgery!

Hi there

I am so terribly sorry to read your post. You poor thing, you have been so unlucky.Of course you are terrified , you would not be human if you weren't.

I also had a BOT removed in 2010 and we corresponded then. I haven't had a recurrence , but did have an extremely traumatic  second operation. However I do want to send you lots of cyberhugs.

I can only imagine how you must be feeling, especially with your little ones. However you are obviously an extremely strong young lady and you will get through this.

I have a couple of suggestions.

You are obviously in the UK , as I am . I spoke to the Ruth, the support nurse in Ovacome, an OC charity, who was absolutely fantastic and extremely knowledgeable . She offered to put me in touch with other borderline ladies, so I would highly recommend that you consider giving her a call. You can also post on the Ovacome forum and may well get responses from ladies in similar situations.

One word of advice I always remember is to use every resource available to you to try to get through this, family , friends etc etc. If you do get very low emotionally do please get help, either prescribed or use the many on line resources like computerised CBT. I have found this to be extremely useful.

Do take care and let us know how it all goes.

Charlie xxx
