ruptured cysts????

Went to my apt. Yesterday for a pap, results in two weeks. Informed doctor of my symptoms but she said there was no need to worry about my ovaries. I was experiencing so much pain in the pelvic area yesterday that I ended up going to the ER for some answers. Complaint: fatigue, nausea bloating and sever pelvic pain on my left side that radiated to my left inner thigh. After doing a pelvic exam ER told me that probably one of my cysts on my left ovary had ruptured so he prescribed me with pain meds. At the beginning of the week I went to the ER due to rectal bleeding that I had been experiencing for a few weeks. ER checked me again for rectal bleeding, tested positive for blood. ER doc told me that my nausea, bloating and possible rectal bleeding is associated with an ulcer that I have developed and prescribed me ulcer medication. Stated that might be blood in my stomach that is causing the upset ness. He didn’t bother to do ultrasound or x-ray to check my ovaries, which really bothered me. Back in 2006 is when I found out about my cysts believed to be just follicle cysts but never any follow up by my doctor for them. He dismissed me due to the fact that he believed one ruptured and that they have just grown in size due to my cycle, but the pain is there all of the time! I am starting to feel like maybe this is all just in my head because no one will find the actual cause to my pain or symptoms. He stated there is nothing seriously wrong with me and that the pelvic pain will stop within a week or so. Question is: is it possible for them to determine a cyst had ruptured just by doing a pelvic exam? Why would it have ruptured? I just need answers and feel as though doctors are just over looking things.

If you have anything on your ovary alway have a follow up TVUS. I don't care if the doctor said they were benign or not. Scans and imaging doesn't come with a magic eight ball. Doctors can not tell 100% for sure what is  there; whether it be benign or malignant; without surgery and pathology done. I copied and pasted this from my response to your last post. It is important for you to get some kind of imaging done on those ovaries. Don't just take their word for it, make them prove to you its not OVCA. Tell them you want it ruled out first. If they come back and say your too young. Tell them cancer doesn't discriminate. It's the only thing in this world that truly doesn't discriminate. It doesn't care who or what you are it is possible for anyone to have it.

I had a sonogram back in 2005, records stated "probable folicle, fluid filled" cysts but no f/u since. just don't like the word "probable" but yes I will keep on them!

Keep on it - it's probably not something "serious" but then again, you need to be sure it's not something like cancer.  I feel it's important to get to the bottom of things. Have you been given a sonogram? it can show cysts on the ovaries, and whether they are solid or fluid-filled.

Through a sonogram I was found to have a solid cyst - having it removed this month (along with the entire ovary because I have had cysts for a couple years and am done having chilren).

Don't give up until someone has made a proper (and correct) diagnosis!

Thanks for your reply. The only thing that I have had done is a biopsy of my cervix back in 2006. But there has been no f/u of my cysts because they stated that there was no need to worry that they will grow in then reduce size with my cycle. Everyone keeps passing me off right now due to few days preperiod. The thing that they are not understanding is I feel like this regardless of my cycle! The bulge in my lower left side comes and goes but the pain, sharp, take my breath away at times pain is there all the time. Maybe doctors think I am too young? I was really surprised that after two ER visits in one week complaining of pain they only did pelvic exams. Sending me home with pain medication, I don't want pain medication I want the pain to be gone! I don't know what to do to get someone to take me seriously. At least for someone to check to see what is the real cause of the problem. Sorry just needed to vent.

HI April... My daughter is about your age, and she has had lots of monthly problems and much pain. She recently had a laparoscopy and they found a cyst which had burst. They sent some of the fluid to the lab for testing, and luckily the results showed non-cancerous. It was a real worry because of my OvCa so we were both relieved with the results.
Have you had a laparoscopy, where they can actually see if there is anything to worry about, and take biopsies if needed? If your pain continues, seek a second or even third opinion, as I was given the run-around for over 9 months before it was determined that I had ovarian cancer. It's not natural to have that pain, so do keep onto the Doctors and insist that they find the problem. Wishing you all the best...hugs...Helen.

Yes, I was told ulcer, IBS, peri-menopause, possible rupturing cysts, spasmodic colon, acid re-flux, you name it. I also was told that I ate too much sugar, don't exercise and am getting old. Actually those things were true!! I was anemic really bad GI cause was ruled out. Gyn was supposed to rule out GYN cause She gave up trying. I switched to new gyn. He found my ovca. I know he saved my life. After my surgery all GI symptoms were gone except constipation. I am sure you are not sick like me and will find the cause of your pain and be fine. My symptoms were bad for YEARS! Marie

Doctors told you as well that you probably have ulcers? The doctor referred me to see GI for upper as well as lower GI testing. I thought an ulcer theory was a bunch of ****, and just wanted to cry when he told me that. He also stated that it is "possible" that I have a UTI due to my symptoms of having to urinate all the time, so he gave me a prescription for that as well. However present no real symptoms of an infection. Clear, no pain while urination. Just the need to go all the time and when I go feeling that I need to go again! What was the end result with you, how long did it take for them to finally do some real testing?

I don't like the words "might be" or "probably" when a doctor is giving a diagnosis of our trouble. Words like that require follow-up so the guessing is taken out of the matter. Keep on them. You are doing the right thing to find answers. I was told I "probably" had ulcers for a long time. After I had an upper GI it showed my stomach and esophagus were fine. Good luck and keep us posted. I would love to hear what the others on board have to say about this. You found out you had multiple cysts on your ovaries back in 2006 but there was no ultrasound or follow-up done since then. Now you have all these symptoms and they give you ulcer medication. Hmmm. I suppose waiting a week to see if the pain subsides isn't too unreasonable but I would wonder what is going on in there.

also after I left my doctors yesterday I called back asking for CA 125 test along with the order for thyroid test she had ordered. Just listened to my messages doctor left she said that it was not needed but they will write me a order if I wanted to pay for the test myself...
