abnornal pap

hello, I am a 47 years old with 4 kids... My mother died of oc back when she was 37...I have not been to the gyn for 7 years.. Well i went 2 weeks ago and my pap come back abnormal with atipical grandular cells of unspecific origin... I ma haveing a D/C with a leep done in a week..Iread these type of cells are rare.....Should I be concerned?

If your mom had ovca there is a possibility it could be genetic. Please don't go 7 years  without keeping a check on that. Ovca is not detected on a pap smear  unless it spreads to that area. Let your dr. know about your mom and keep a moniter on it. Early detection has 90% survival rate.   Donna

You should be concerned enough to follow through and find out just exactly what is going on.  Anytime something comes back "abnormal" we automatically worry.  Right now you really don't have anything to worry about.  Actually, you are lucky you decided to get in there and get that pap!  If something is going on you will be able to take action only because you are being pro-active with your health.   Your week will be up in no time and shortly there after you will be able to get your answers.  At that point you will be able to decide what action to take; if any.    Please try not to worry.....caring for four kids is challenging enough!  Hang in there and keep us posted.
