scared this might be ovarian cancer

I've had occasional right-sided pelvic pain for years now (4? 5?). Severity varies, but the last one lasted longer and was overall worse. The first instances weren't that bad, just moderate pain, but I could still stand up. The first "severe" case happened around 3-4 years ago, lasted around a day. I had a blood test the next day and the doctor said I had an infection based on my results, said I might have appendicitis after all, except I got better as the day progressed. Left him stumped, but he didn't really pursue anything else. His conclusion (not an OB/GYN) was that my ovarian cyst (I had a scan in my teens that found one) probably erupted and infected the surrounding area.

Over the years I've had occasional episodes, usually lasting one to two days. After complaints I finally had an abdominal ultrasound some time later (still 3-4 years ago). They found nothing. Despite that, I continued to have episodes. One of the more recent ones was a sharp, intense pain that quickly subsided and ended the episode.

My latest episode, which happened just recently, was worse. It lasted longer (3 days), there was this pain in a spot on my inner thigh, and I had back (lower, on the same side as well) and hip pain (more recently spots of pain on the pelvic spot near my hip bone). Over the years I'd learned it gets better with rest; I usually sleep it off. Maybe it was my sleep position this time, but it didn't. I'm better now, but I'd read up on ovarian cancer pain and, despite the ultrasound results (they can have false negatives, right?) I'm growing nervous.

I'm 27, have hyperthyroidism, and cancers are common on my family's maternal side (Grandmother: liver; one aunt: breast; another aunt who died of cancer I have no idea which, and I'm sure there are more), though my supposedly cancer-free paternal side has an aunt who died of melanoma.

On my menstrual cramps, just in case: I used to feel pain as intense as these right-sided pelvic ones when I did, and the pain tended to be more intense on the right half. But ever since I stopped drinking coffee on my endocrinologist's advice, they've improved.

I do not know what to say. A OB/GYN might help.

Sorry if this is spammy, but I'd forgotten to include the actual question: do I need to get it checked by an OB/GYN after all? Do a round of tests?
