All the best to your mum. My own mother was diagnozed with stage 4 cancer last Dec and she is now in remission. There is always hope and this board is a great place to look for support and information.

FOUND OUT ITS STAGE IV WITH A GRAPEFRIUT SIZE ON HER OVARIES AND  THE MASS  GOING FRON ONE SIDE OF HER ABDOMEN TO THE OTHER AND A SPOT BEHIND HER LIVER. DEPENDING ON THE DEPTH OF THE MASS THEY MAY HAVE TO TAKE OUT HER SMALL AND PART OF HER LARGE INTESTINES.
THURSADAY THEY ARE GOING IN TO BASIC CLEAN HER OUT AND THEY SAY SHE WILL BE IN THE HOSPITAL FOR THREE WEEKS. SHE APPARENTLY HAS ONE OF THE BEST DOCTORS IN FLORIDA, THANKS FOR ALL THE SUPPORT MANY YOU HAVE GIVEN ME AND I WILL KEEP YOU POSTED ON THE OUTCOME.
THANKS AGAIN FOR REASURRING ME THAT THIS CAN BE TREATED AND I HOPE TO HAVE GREAT NEWS THURSDAY AND THE FOLLOWING WEEKS TO COME...........

I'm sorry that you are having to deal with this.  The ladies here have given great advice.  make sure you take someone along with you, as it has been said it is a tramatic time and you could forget something important to you.  I would also suggest a onc/gyn for her surgery if she has one.  you want the best and a gyn/onc is the specialist.  ~~~Joanne

I know you are scared and confused. But do not give up hope. I am one of the few women here (it seems anyway) that was diagnosed at stage IV. And that was in Nov 2005. So far I am doing great in my opinion. I am still here and planning on sticking around for a long time yet.
When you meet with your moms oncologist try to take a list of all of the questions that you have. It will help you to remember to ask everything you are wanting to know. Also you might want to have someone else go with you. It is such a shocking and traumatic experience and it can be very overwhelming at times. If there are a few of you there then your chances of catching all the Dr says are much greater.
It sounds like your mom has got great Drs so no matter the outcome she will be in good hands.
I wish you the best and please let us know what you find out.

Sherry,
Good advice from Susie... your best bet is to talk to your mom's oncologist and bring a zillion questions with you if you need to ask them! Speak up... be honest and forthright!

Now is the time for guts and guile! (Elizabeth Taylor quote)

Be strong and positive....

You can't really know what stage your mom is in until you meet with the doctor, but it sounds like you have great doctors who not only found this, but are acting on it immediately!  Many of us have had to wait for weeks and months to meet with our doctors and to be taken seriously.

Whatever the outcome, there are women in this forum who are in stages 3 or 4 of ovarian cancer, living their lives for years after, as normally as possible.  There are many choices of chemotherapies available to us.  So hang in there, do research on the internet if you'd like, and good luck on Wednesday!
