Please read the post a few down by Tealgirl. Her family is going thru the exact same thing. My OB/GYN called me with my results at 10PM with the phone number to a GYN/ONC that he had already discussed my case with and I was staged as 1A!!!!
Please contact your local hospital or cancer center for referrals to a GYN/ONC and make an appointment immediately. There is always hope and new treatments. I know of a few long term survivors...this monster can be beat!!!!
We are here to help and support you and your family....if there is anything we can do...just ask!
the surgery should have been done by a GYN/ONC instead of an OB/GYN for greater success, however you can still go to a GYN/ONC later on even if they didn't do it.
Have an HMO? That is why they are not referring you to a GYN/ONC...they cost more money...remember your life is not as important as saving a few bucks. You can still push the issue though, there is usually loopholes, refer to your primary care physician for help or State.
You may have to find your own oncologist, this is not rare either. Typically, if you were admitted to the hospital via emergency, you would have had one assigned to you. If your OB/GYN did this on their own, anything goes. You can ask them for suggestions or help.
You call the OBGYN/Surgeon and ask what is going on, mention standard of care is not being practiced. Do not speak to the the nurse, probably a receptionist anyway, you only want the doctor. At the same time make the appointment with the Gyn/Onc and deal with insurace after. Use standard of care, because your's and Tealgirl's mother have not received it.
Yes, appointment with a gyn/onc soon. After surgery is performed it is usually customary to have a follow up within a week to check stitches, etc. I was told immediately about chemo and started 7 weeks after the surgery. I had surgery with a gyn/onc. Good luck.
Thank you all for your responses, caring and support. Tealgirl and I are in the same family, we both are very much concerned with her Standard of Care and our now trying to find out if maybe our mom has opted to not recieve Chemo, she still wants to see her OBGYN surgeon because of her comfort level with him. So is it possible he did give her referall and she denied it? Or she doesnt quite understand the standard of care she should be recieving, either way this is so helpless being in limbo. She goes to see her surgeon on 7/11, when he is back from vacation, if she hasnt gotten a referall we are going to be down Kaiser's throats!
