15 cm cyst after clomid treatment

Hello all.  I will try to make this as short as possible.  I am 35 yo and have been married 10 years.  No pregancies as of yet. I have had surgery 3 times.  1st was lapascopic in 2004 for removal of endometriosis,  2nd lapascopic in Dec 2005 for endometriosis, fibroid, and left oviarn cyst 6cm once in found that it was too complicated and surgery schedualed for March 2006 for laparotomy.  This was done fibroyid removed, most endometriosis (except for some on bowel) removed, right oviarian cysts removed, they found my left ovary to be polycystic and drilled it.  Started on clomid treatment on March 26 and was on it for 5 days. Ultrasound today showed 15cm cyst to right ovary.
Its only been 4 weeks since the removal of the cyst.  How abnormal is it to have a 15 cm cyst grow that fast.  I dont scare easliy and not too worried about it but find that kinda odd. Any comment or personal stories would be great. Thanks Terri

I am 30 yrs old.  My husband and I have been ttc for 2 years.  We went through our first round of Clomid (100mg days 3-7) and IUI last month.  I was in severe pain all month, had terrible hot flashes and was incredibly moody.  I ended up in the hospital because of a fever.  It turns out that I had an enlarged Ovary that was caused from the Clomid.  The Doctor said if I was pregnant, we wouldn't worry about it.  If I wasn't pregnant, we'd have to change my treatment plan.  I wasn't pregnant...so, this cycle I took 5mg of Letrozole on days 4-8 (should have been 3-7 but had a hard time filling Rx).  Today is day 12.  I had my ultrasound.  My left ovary is normal size and I have 6 follicles under 12mm.  My right ovary is triple it's size with a massive cyst on it.  It also has 2 follicles under 12 mm.  The Nurse could only tell me what she was seeing and not what she thought the Doctor would do about it.  The cyst was a result of using the Clomid.  I'm assuming they will skip IUI this month until the cyst is gone (either on its own or through removal).  I have done some research on Cysts after Clomid and it seems to be a very common problem.

I have been trying to conceive for about 6 months and have actually been off of birth control for over a year now. During my last exam my Dr. told me I may have endometriosis. I have had few symptoms other than the painful pelvic exam. I then had a vaginal ultrasound that showed I have a cyst on my left ovary. My pap also came back abnormal. My Dr. had discussed putting me on clomid. After reading this I have a great interest in repronex, which I had never before heard of. Thank you for sharing your stories!! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

hi, in 23 n i just had a laparotomy on 20th of this month (still recovering) to remove a 12cm dermoid cyst on my left ovary. But during the operation doctors noticed and removed a second cyst on my right ovary that was 6cm long. What i want to know is; did i suddenly grow this second cyst or was it un-noticed during the ultra sound scan???  sorry if its a silly qustion but i hear ppl constantly getting cysts that grow rappidly and that scares me like hell.

May I ask how much Repronex you were on? And what cd you took it? I am gonna have an ultrasound on Monday. I am very nervous- this is my first cycle on it. It will be cd 8 - do you remember how many follicles you had on cd 8?

Thanks

Please do.. I hated clmid.. it was not the IF treatment for me.  The injectibles were MUCH MUCH better.  I would tkae repronex 5 days then i would take a shot of HCG then I would have an intrauterine insemination.. (that was the one thing hubby hated about the injectibles.. having to give the specimen ..giggle he was really used the Baby Making love making poor guy).  But we made it semi romantic .. in that he would hold my hand while the procedure was being done and aftrwards they make you lay there for 20 min.. he would not leave my side. Then i would do Progesterone injections for 2 weeks i think (it was a while ago sorry).  My bottom was a little bruised but aside from that very minimal sides in comparison to clomid.

I hyperstimulated all the time with clomid.. for some reason it just made my body go into a tail spin.. and they were pretty huge cysts too. The hot flasheds were unbareable.. and i was much more emotional on the clomid too.

The one bad thing about the repronex is that the chances of multiples is MUCH higher.  So yes i did end up with quintuplets
but only one of the five babies made it.  I lost the other 4 while i was pregnant. so i was basicaly on bed rest for my last trimester.. that is another story.. please keep us posted and God Bless you.  I hope you feel better. Drop me a line and let me know what your dr. says :-)

Sorry to hear you are having such a hard time.  I hope you feel better soon.  A cyst of that size must be very unconfortable. I hope you feel betters soon.  I have a little tid bit to share with you re: my experience with clomd ....

I used to get A LOT of cysts while on clomid.  Some pretty large ones that seemed to appear out of nowhere.  The dr. would take me off clomid for a cycle and if the cyst was still there or still too large to start the next cycle of treatment they would put me on the pill to help things along.  It took me 4 years to concieve.. but by the grace of God had a wonderful little boy. My personal opinion the repronex injectibles were much better.  I did not have 1/2 of the side effects or hyperstimulation that clomid gave me.  Very little to no hot flashes and best of all HARDLY ANY CYCSTS!!

Best of luck and please keep us posted Hope you feel better quick :-)

Thank you so much. Going for appointment in the middle of the month for another US. Continuation of Clomid will be based on that.  Don't think he will increase the dosage considering I am on the lowest dose available.  The first question he asked was " I did put you n 50mg right?"  LOL.  Thanks for the information.

I don't know about the cyst size. Only what I experienced on clomid.  I took clomid quite a bit.  At one point I had to stop it for 3months because they thought I had a dermoid cyst.  It must of have been a good size because the dr. could feel on examing me and I was still not lite weight at that time.  Fortunately is did resolve in 3 months and I contiued treatment.  I tried to have a second child when my first was about 2yrs old.  I was on a five day dose of clomid or 250mg/day for the 5 days.  It was not successful so we called it quits but the dr said if he had increased me dosage any more he would have had to write me up in a medical journal.  I imagine that they don't want to continue your treatment until this resolves because of size and question of composition.  Hopefully it will resolve as well. Good luck

I am 8 wks post laperotomy surgery for removal of two peach sized cysts on left ovary and 1/3 of ovary removed, along w/ endo removal.

I took clomid that cycle that we found the cysts. However, my OB said that it was highly unlikely that the clomid caused the cysts being that we found them on cd 10 or so. We did the watch and wait for just two wks since i was in a ton of pain and have tortion of the ovary. He really wanted to wait to see if it resolved by the time i had my period. Luckly we did not wait as it turned out i had two endo. cysts that will not go away on their own. Also, like u, in 2000 i had laperscopic to remove a cyst and endo.

I was told that because of my endo, we want to NOT ovulate as much as possible...that means, if u r not going to ttc, then u should use depo or some other treatment. I am going to ttc my second asap, and will go w/ a top RE in our area. I was told that they will likely use something other than clomid to achieve pregnancy faster, but do ultrasounds often during ttc to make sure i don't develop more cysts.

Please don't give up! It took us 3 long, trying years, and 2 miscarrages to come home w/ our first. Good luck to you!

Stranger things have happened, however if it hasn't resolved within six weeks, then chances are that it will not.  If that is the case, then it must be removed.  I know, it stinks on ice, but that is what needs to be done.

Thanks for your response.  Dr. said no chance of conception with the cyst.  Ultrasound appiontment made for the first day of my next cycle to see where the cyst stands.  Whats the chance of a 15 cm cysts going away on its own?

Cysts can grow very, very rapidly as yours has.  What have you and your dr. decided to do?
