I understand your frustration, 6 months after emergency surgery to remove a 8.5 X 7.2 X 6.2 cm twisted cyst on my left ovaryi was diagnosed with a 7.5 X 5.6 cm cyst on the opposite ovary (right) it is definitly frustrating my doctor allowed me to wait and follow up every 3 months with ultrasounds lately it has been causing pain but my last ultrasound showed that the cyst had shurnk to 3.5 X 2.0 cm so hopefully you will have the same luck. My doctor wanted to remove it at that point due to the pain i'd been having but i begged to put it off as last time they had to do a laparotomy instead of the laporoscopy (sorry for the poor spelling). I have my next ultrasound this week so i am hoping that the cyst is gone but i have a feeling it won't be,
I wish you all the luck but please know your not alone in this and we are here for you :) Keep us posted on how your doing :)
I'm on cycle two of cysts. The doc just drained them before, so those are back plus some. I can't take BCPs because I get migraines. I need to find out what's causing them specifically and am trying to research anti-androgens (my non-scientific thoughts are that I need to remove testosterone rather than add more estrogen, but really I need to see the endocrinologist who can do some tests).
I am now sitting in pain and waiting for an ultrasound on Wed for the "follow up" ultrasound 3 mo after the first one. I am going to beg for surgery (again) but definitely need to figure out what's causing them. I'm 38 and my best guess is that my body is peri-menopausal and some hormones if off.
Like asdf125 said, all women get cysts, most just dont realize they have them because they go away on their own when you have your period.
Birth control can help reduce the risk and size of cysts. I'd discuss it with your doctor but dont be surprised if after one month it doesnt work .I found for me it wasnt working and had to be on BCP for 3 months consecutive be effective to shrink the cyst.
I had a similar issue with reoccuring cysts, though in a shorter time frame ( I had laprascopic surgery done in april 2010, by may, beginning of june i was having pains again, and in Feb 2011 I had to have a laparotomy).
Definitely discuss any options with your doctor and hopefully the cyst resolves itself. Good luck!
We all get cysts, by far most are "functional cysts". It is part of the cycle (ovulation etc). Most functional cysts go away on their own after a few cycles, which is why your doctor is telling you to wait.
Birth control can reduce the risk of cysts, you may want to chat your doctor about that.
I think 6cm is the limit for cysts, if it gets to that size, the doctors will want to remove it. Anything smaller is more likely to resolve on its own and not cause problems.
Good luck, I hope the cyst resolves itself
