50 cm cyst!

On the 9th I learned that I have an ovarian cyst growing on my right ovary. Yay -.-
I saw a specialist basically right away, the 14th I believe if not sooner actually. He informed me that they would have to check for cancer. And that if he did the surgery he would cut me from under my breasts to my ovary's. The reason for this is because it is 50cm top to bottom. Its friggen huge!
I had blood work and a sonogram done on the 18th.....and have not heard anything at all yet. (I do not have insurance and this has sort of forced me to sign up for medicaid which i hate. Yay independence! Any who I feel as tho my lack of proper insurance is the reason why I am waiting so long.)
Imagine thinking you are over weight and then you learn that you actually have this huge thing growing in you. Its a big wake up call ha.
It has been growing for at least 2 years. I have always have a little pain but I can honestly put up with a lot of pain and get through my days. I figured the pain was from being overweight and carrying all this weight. The doctor said at the very very least this cyst weighs 30lbs+ O.O
Yeah huuugee. So on to a couple questions for everyone because I am not good with medical issues.
1. How painful is this honestly? Like Im talking once painkillers wear off?
2. How hard is it to move around?
3. What is this swelly belly thing?
4. Have any of you ever been cut that large?
5. How long did most of you wait for your surgery's to take place?
6. Skin? Will it be hangy and gross? I would probably rather be fat then have hanging skin. I was told by a friend since Im youngish itll snap right back (i am 24)
7. How likely is it I am going to lose my ovary's? As I said above I am 24 but have never had children and would like to someday,
8. I have always been the tough one when it comes to friends and family. In the E.R. i cracked jokes and laughed and generally annoyed my mother ha. I have acted as tho this does not bother me at all but I gotta tell someone.....I AM SCARED!
Thanks for any feedback.
Also please dont get mad at my for my horrible spelling and grammer. I am sitting here in pain typing at 5am so sorry.

brilliant news, getting there, hope all seems worth it now. Thanks for posting the after results. so many people write -  start with quiries and concerns then all seems to fade out. I shall try to be positive and when totally fed up....(which i think everyone feels at times) shall flick on here and force myself to realise not for ever although may fee like it. thanks again

Hi there what a joy to read your comments and news. Just had a 27cms x23 cms x 23 cms cyst established no other news than that until next wednesday when i have further tests. They are unsure if attached to anything. Was starting to feel as though this size was freakish....then saw yours and realise I do not hold the record......So glad is all on the way up for you know. Like you used to be, no clothes fit and actually looked at maternity slacks, although cheap stretchy leggings solving problems, however not too elegant for a 65 yr old. thank you so much for informing us of the after details so many comments just stop after op booked etc and then you are left wondering. fingers crossed I've already had a hystorectamy in 1982 and that wasn't too bad but seems ill get a larger scare from this, however, must admit finding it all rather scary. Slightly less scary now i have read yours.  Could only find people talking about 7-8cms cysts and concerned was an understatement. lots of luck to the slim you

Well I am on week 6 after surgery today. I had a vertical incision that went up to my belly button. Surgery was a little over 3 hours long. And heres the big news. MY CYST WAS 60 LBS! It was huge! Surgery went well. Ended up staying in the hospital for about a week. I am healing great too. Still not allowed to life anything even light. Wont be going back to work for a couple months still. Lots on inside healing is needed.
I can breath and have lots of room in my clothes now haha
Thank you for all the well wishes too.

Thank you so much for the response. I will deff stay on top of medicine then because I am one of those people who will stop if I think I am getting better. I went yesterday and learned that my bloodwork and pap smear were both great. I also learned I have a fatty liver that they need to check out. Hopefully I will have surgery soon. (waiting for an okay from chief of surgery)
I was told I will without a doubt lose my right ovary and they will see about the left.
This is the biggest lesson life could have handed me to take care of my body. I only get one and it needs to be treated with love and care ha.

Im sorry you have to go though this. Ill try to answer your questions.

1: I assume you are referring to the surgery not general ovarian cyst pain? When you first wake up from the anaesthetics , you shouldnt be in much pain, most women are ok until the next morning when the anaesthetics has worn off properly. Prepare yourself for the first time you are made to sit up, it will be horrible, but I promise the second time is a lot easier. Your painkillers should be topped up regularly the first 4+ weeks, DO NOT miss any tables the first ~2 weeks just because you feel like you can cope ok at the current level. It is very painful and takes hours to catch up if you drop too low. You are of course expected to gradually decrease your painkilles, but make sure you are almost pain free on the current dose before reducing it.

2: Quite hard. You will be walking slowly, not bending down for weeks, generally moving like a 90 year old. Make sure your toenails are cut before surgery and forget all about shaving your legs. You may need someone to help you with your socks for a while and getting out of bed when you return from hospital. It is not just the obvious wound and pain restricting you, your stomach muscles will be SO sore and they are responsible for stabilising your upper body. My muscle pain went away after about 5 weeks. Once you go off painkillers completely, you will still be sore the odd time, but probably no more than you are now. It will eventually stop.

3: If you read about it here or other places, it is most likely to do with the CO2 gas used during laparoscopy. You wont be having it, although you will still swell and bruise, but not as badly. Gravity and decreased circulation (caused by not using your muscles etc as much) cause it, gentle upwards strokes/massage helps a bit, but make sure your wound is healed first. The vertical incision traps less swelling than the horizontal one.

4: Not quite. My cyst was 23 cm and my scar starts ~5 cm below my breast bone and stops just at my pubic hair line.. That was plan Z, so I also have a horizontal one, almost touching the hip bones on either side.

5: 2.5 months. They were not in a rush for 2 reasons: It was too large to twist and the blood tests didnt indicate cancer. Turned out to be borderline.
6: It should snap back. Mine did (23 years). I dont have anything floppy of any kind, although I do think I noticed my skin not being completely smooth for a while. The swelling will hide it for a while. It takes a little time, but you will get there.

7: I lost mine, but fertility is practically unaffected by loosing one. Tell yourself your ovary is buggered, but tell your surgeon to do everything in his/her power to save bits and pieces if possible. This way you wont be too disappointed if you loose it. It all depends on the type of cyst, exact location of the cyst, what state the ovary is in and how good your surgeon is.

8: Being scared is normal! Talk to your mum or someone close to you, it is a huge burden to carry on your own and you will need the support then your date is getting close/first few days in hospital. Most of us are petrified, but we all manage to get though it.

Good luck I hope everything goes smoothly.
