5.5 cm complex cyst-how long before it can turn to ca

Hi, I am 45 and had a partial hysterectomy 7 months ago. The doctor said she removed a dermoid (solid cyst), various fibroids and other cysts plus my tubes, uterus and left my r ovary and loads of endometreosis.  I just went to her office with left side groin pain that radiated to my butt which a vaginal u/s showed a 5 cm complex cyst.  The NP immediately ordered a CA 125 and surgery to remove the ovary. States it may be cancer???  If I didn't have cancer 7 months ago when they were in me the first time, why do they now think I have cancer with this cyst and how fast does it take for a complex cyst to turn into cancer?

Hi, thank you for the good wishes.  I am pretty sore and am trying to stay off my feet which is hard with two pugs running around.  I am still not over the one week of worry.  It really opens up a new feeling for persons with cancer. I now realize that regardless of a persons optimism and stoic manner that it is lonely because that is the first symptom.  You really feel alienated.  Anyway....think positive, be positive and stay positive.  Smile, Linda

I am glad to hear that there was no cancer. Hope you recover well from your surgery. What a scare for sure over the CA 125 test. I'd be freaking out too.

I had my surgery yesterday for the removal of the right ovary and turned out the complex cyst did not have cancer or other abnormality but my endometriosis was back and all over so she cleaned me up.  Looking back it was the CA 125 order that freaked me out because I have no hx of ca in my family at all.  I hope everyone is ok and stays positive.
