Breast tenderness after period..is this a cyst?

Hi Everyone,
Im new to this board, and want to thank you in advance for reading and/or responding to my question. I am 40 yr old woman who has always had and still have very regular cycles. 3 yrs ago I had a period 2 wks after my initial period, being a worrier I saw my gyn who did a tvu and noticed several small cysts on one ovary, the other ovary he couldnt visualize. He barely mentioned them, so I assumed they were functional.
Since then I have had regular yearly gyn exams, with normal results. This month I had my usual pms symptoms, low back ache on the right side, with tender breasts about a week before my period. I had a normal period, but my breast tenderness has not gone away. Now I am cycle day 10 and they are really sore! My lower right back is hurting too. No ovary pain, bloating, gas, constipation, etc, just breast tenderness and back pain. Could this be a cyst? Anyone else have similar symptoms? I have an appt with by gyn on tues, but thats a long time to wait when you are worried it could be ovarian cancer. Any input is greatly appreciated!

Are you absolutely sure you aren't pregnant? I know.. sounds ridiculous,but it is possible to have a period and still be pregnant.. Especially with the breast tenderness. It isn't common but it can happen.
    Please don't worry about it being cancer!! Even if it is a cyst, they are very common in younger women. Try not to worry, and I'm sure the Dr. will shed some light on it.

My last mammo was in october, and was normal. I do monthly exams and have noticed a change. They are just both very tender.

When was your last mammogram? Women do develop cysts in their breasts as well and they can cause tenderness.

Don't worry about cancer yet!!  Don't jump to conclusions until you have more information, stressing will just make you feel worse.  Breast tenderness I though could happen while you're ovulating too... I thought that symptoms of cysts generally centered around abnormal bleeding, cramping, etc.  He may decide to do a pelvic ultrasound to see if you still have cysts, they can sometimes go away on their own.  He probably wasn't worried about them earlier because you weren't that symptomatic.  Don't worry too much until you get tests back and your Dr. gives you answers.
