Cysts

So I have looked up symptoms of ovarian cysts and one that caught my eye was weight gain. Has anyone ever gained weight because of cysts? I can not seem to lose any weight. I wonder if the cysts are causing this?

I was diagnosed years ago with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.  It causes weight gain and a lot of cysts on your ovaries.  I unfortunately have done a lot of research on this matter, talked to a lot of doctors and know that it is a very difficult thing to get rid of.  If you find that you have this, you will discover that it also affects the insulin levels in  your body and I have to be on Metformin, which they use for diabetics, even though I am not diabetic.  I have been told that the only way to loose the weight is through surgery if it gets real bad.  I gained my weight literally over night I went from 140 to 300 in about 9 months.  Nothing in my life had changed, at that time.  No major life changes.  And it was years ago and no one even knew about Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.  I would recommend seeing your gynocolgist.

No problem.  I hope that everything goes well for you and that you find some answers for yourself.  This wasn't for me because I had too much damage inside of me from an infection years ago, but you might be able to have a partial hysterectomy where they take all but your ovaries, so you don't have to do the whole menopause at this moment.  I would double check to see if you have a family history of blood clots because with weight factor you increase your chances of them on birth control pills.  And if you have a family history, as I have, that increases it, just so you are aware of everything and don't get struck by lightening out of the blue.  Anyway, take care, best of wishes to you.

I am so sorry you have been through so much :(  I have decided that I am going to try to keep one of my ovaries. The thought of menopause and all that comes with it scares me. My dr mentioned taking left ovary and doing uterine ablation, I think that is what im going to ask for. That way, no more once a month bad pain, and with BC pills maybe they will control the growth of any more cysts forming on my remaining ovary too. I am really scared about it all, i have never had any problems like this. Its all new to me. Thanks so much for talking with me about this.

Surgery to loose the weight as in lap band surgery or the gastric bypass surgery.  I did have to have a hysterectomy because of the pain I was in.  I had taken birth control pills to help it but then I developed a lot of blood clots, sixteen in my right lung alone and I had to be removed from those.  So the pain of PCOS came back with a vengence.  It got so bad I just couldn't take it anymore and ended up having a hysterectomy.  I am 37, had the surgery 3 years ago, thought I was too young to go through menopause myself and I won't lie it has at times been hard especially because I can't be on hormone replacements.  I am flying solo.  But I weighed in the pros and cons and decided no pain had to be better.  And I honestly am very glad I had the hysterectomy.  But it isn't for everyone so I would discuss things with your doctor and ask him to check for PCOS, that way you at least no what is the cause of what is going on with you.

Thanks so much for replying. I have consistently gained weight over the past few years. I can't seem to lose it. I have seen my gynecologist recently and he did not mention anything about PCOS. I do however have cysts,  6 on my Rt ovary and 5 on Lt. ovary. Im not sure what the case is. You say surgery is the only way to lose the weight. Did you mean surgery on your ovaries or what? My gyno is talking about removing my Lt. ovary or possibly doing a hysterectomy. Right now lots of questions and lots of research for me to do. I am 32, sorta young to go through menopause, but if it takes the pain away that  I have, it might be what I choose.

Thanks
