Cysts in ovary

Went for a check for pelvic pain and ultrasound showed a cysts of 4 cm.she prescribed me with progesterone and time me to come see her after the second menstruation cycle to check if the cysts has gone. Went to see another gynecologist for a second opinion who recommend me to go for removal of ovary due to my age (am 42) since removal of the cysts only can lead to the risk of the liquid in the cysts to shower in the ovary and the risk of contaminating it. I have already scheduled for a surgery but now am not sure whether treatment by progesterone would have helped to shrink th e cyst. Any advice please? Thx.

Just saw your post. Any update? It's concerning that the second opinion gynecologist is so quick to want to remove your ovary. There's a good chance this cyst could resolve on its own (even without progesterone). And our ovaries are needed our whole lives for the health promoting hormones they produce. They do not shut down at menopause.
