Good luck! I hope that they are able to save your ovary as well. Dont get too discouraged if they cant though, as long as you're okay and healthy afterwards thats what matters most. Sorry to hear the BC didnt help though :( always frustrating when it doesnt help how you hoped. Good news is you dont have a long wait for surgery!

Its okay, trust me, its sooo stressful before surgery cause your mind goes a million miles a minute thinking of the what if's, how to prep for it, etc.... Just try to relax! Honestly surgery isnt so bad.

How long are you in the operating room? Its not long, at most 45min-1hr... Honestly its the waking up from the anesthetic that takes the most time. my surgery was at 11:40am. I woke up in recovery room at 1:15pm.

Easier said than done, but honestly try to relax. I had a lot more time to prep for surgery as i knew Nov 2nd I needed it, and found out in Jan my date, which got postponed til Feb2nd.

It seems so overwhelming at first dealing with everything cause of all the info you have coming to you, but afterwards, knowing that you wont be in pain anymore, its soo worth it.

Good luck on your surgery.  Don't be too worried as the recovery really wasn't that bad.  I am almost 4 weeks post op and doing great.  They did the surgery outpatient.  I had a 7 cm fibroid removed  laparoscopic and they had to remove my ovary as well.  I was upset that they couldn't save it but I already got a period so the other ovary must be doing it's job.  I went back to work after 2 weeks.  I never took anything but motrin for the pain as it seemed to take the edge off well enough.  The first week I rested a lot but walked around every few hours to get the blood moving.  I even went to the store a few days after surgery.  Let us know how it goes.  :o)

Do you know if it will be open surgery or keyhole?

If its key hole( laparoscopy) hmmm i just had mine drained(dont advise just draining, as mine came back within a month of being drained) but i healed in about 2-4 weeks I was able to go on a short trip out of town for the weekend 2 weeks after, at 4 weeks I was starting to get back into the gym, etc.

With the open surgery(laparotomy) I was in hospital for 3 days, catheterized for the first 36 hours( That sucked! I hated not being allowed to get up out of bed on second day, first day I understood cause I was healing and too weak etc), I was on hydromorphone(pain killer) in my IV. Slow going really cause they've cut the muscles, etc... Before I was released from hospital they removed my staples and used steri strips to close the incision the rest of the way, greatest thing ever, I healed wonderfully and my scar is minimal cause of that. When I was released I wasnt having much pain, so I was using extra strength tylenol and motrin, occasionally needing to take a tylenol with codiene( that I'm able to get over counter).

The best advise I have for you if its open surgery and youre home, body pillow, or several pillows to cushion your stomach and also stops you from rolling over too far, etc (cause it hurts when you do!) docustate sodium(stool softner; you do not want to have to force a BM at all aferwards), and rest, all I did for the first week home it seems is wake up long enough to eat so I could take meds, go to the bathroom and get back to bed/couch to sleep.
