INCREASING PAIN

Hello!  I have a history of ovarian cysts resulting in a laparotomy in '05 and a laparoscope in '08.   I last had a ultrasound in June to show I still had a cyst on my left ovary just over 2cm (believed to be a dermoid, unchanged in size) and a new 3cm cyst on the rt ovary. My problem is the pain I'm experiencing  (for past 3 mths or so and getting increasingly worse) is nothing like what I've felt with the prior cysts (which I thought was bad before),  it's a constant ache, I can feel it when I walk, when I sit with my legs up on the couch tucked along my rt side, terrible pain when I need/during a bowel movement, I can't have sex without yelping (it's like with every thrust it feels like my rt ovary is being punched)(my husband of course is scared of hurting me and I really just don't want to have sex anymore), I feel bloated and the pain when I have gas is like the pain I had after my surgeries, and on odd occasion my rectum spasms (I've never heard of this).    Gosh I feel like I'm falling apart, but according to the reports of my June ultrasound the cysts are small so how can I be having all this pain....have you experienced any of this,  I'm not sure what to do,  or am I just going crazy?????

I appreciate your response, I have read your previous postings. I am so sorry for what you've had to endure.  Thank goodness you came to this site and followed others advice.
It is so hard to know what to do sometimes...go to emerg/wait it out, and it's because it's something you can't physically see. My Gyn believes I should not be experiencing pain with ovarian cysts, well than how come I am and so many others do!?!
I have decided, after following your story,  that should I experience the extent of pain I did a few days ago I will go to emerge. otherwise I will wait until my Dec.15 appoint.  I continue to look for a new Gyn,  a friend of a friend suggest I try to get in with her gyn so I will be calling tomorrow.
I hope your recovery is going well and you are getting plenty of rest, aswell I hope to never have to read of you going through any more ordeals, you have gone through pleny enough.   Of course I'm certain your advice, support, and knowledge you are now equipped with will continue to be needed and appreciated here.  Best wishes to you for a happy and healthy 2010!!

Thank-you.  I really do appreciate my mom accompanying me to my appointment. She has done so on previous visits with my gyn and at very least I leave with my feelings justified that his attitude and care he gives me is not adequate, as my mother is there to witness.
I wish I new what the answer is with the period, I didn't have a period for nearly 3yrs after the birth of my first son and had a D&C to correct it than prior to finding out about my first ovarian cysts I would have it like every 3mths and than for awhile I would have it for 3wks at a time every mth then it went back to norm after surgery and now again it's starting to go haywire.  Oh the joys of being a woman!
I am surprised your GP has not already referred you to a gyn but if I were you I would ask your girlfriends or family members who they see and find out their opinion of them and request a referral to one with good 'reviews'   (Since sharing my experiences with my friends of my gyn I was surprised at how many people have said to me "oh no your seeing him..." )
Best of luck to you at your appoint in Jan. I hope you can get your pain resolved without the need of surgery.  I hope you will keep me posted.
Take care

Please read some of my previous posts, regarding what I've experienced for the last 6 months. Today is exactly a week since my surgery, which ended up being emergency surgery. I kept being told, the cysts weren't any bigger blah  blah blah. Turns out when they finally open me up that my right ovary was twisted 3 times and necrotic, ( which is black, dead and poisonous) and my left ovary was multicystic, with 5cm cysts, that they couldn't even see on ultrasound. The surgeons were absolutely in shock after my surgery, realising that I could have been in a fatal position if I kept listening to there advice. If you think something is not right, then go with your gut its probably not!! I really feel now that I've been about as close to the end as I want to, but when it comes to your body, only YOU know what is and isn't normal. Take care, and hope you find the answers you're looking for.

Good luck on the 15th.  Sometimes it is good to bring someone with you to these darn appointments.  Keeps the doctors in check!  I'm in Ontario and the healthcare situation is horrible here!  I have a followup US sometime mid January but I wish it was sooner as this pain is worrisome.

My periods use to be that way really heavy and drag on for at least 7-10 days.  I don't know if I should be worried about the scant periods now or relieved.  LOL

I'm only seeing a GP he has not given a referral to a Gyno.  Depending on the followup results I may request it.

Hoping your xrays turn out well and there is no scaring!

Let us know how it turns out!

Thank you for your response!  So sorry to hear you are going through these problems aswell, and boy do I know about issues with the doctors. I have been trying to find a new gyn aswell as a new fam. dr with no success.  You will always hear people say "go get second opinions or third..." , it's sure not as easy as one would think.

Funny how you mention the feeling of labour pains as that is exactly what I was thinking earlier today as I was curled in fetal position trying to get over 2 hrs of intense pain.   As for my menstruation it's been a mess for 9yrs or so, right now I get it once ecery 2mths but now it is crazy heavy for 5 days accompanied with major cramping (I've never really had "bad" cramps.

You say they never rechecked the earlier cyst you spoke of...this is what I don't understand, all these dr's seem to have different opinions on this. When I was living in Sask, Can.  my dr's were very adamant about checking for growth and it was a good thing because one had grown from 3cm to 11cm in just 4mths after it's removal they said I should have an US every year and then when another was found every 6mths.  Here in Mb., it's a constant fight with my gyn to do anything for me....so very frustrating.

I have made an appointment but can not get in until Dec.15. So we will see what happens. I have also been trying to concieve for the last 2yrs and on my last visit in June he told me he would send me for an X-ray of my fallopian tubes because he believes they may be blocked due to scar tissue, I was told to call on the first day of menses to book appoint well every time I've called their machine was either broken, out of the building or now I'm told they just don't do it there anymore.       So my mom is joining me on the 15th because I suck with Dr's I just feel bullied so she's going to come stand up for me and help me get some answers.  This is sad I know as I am a 29yr old woman who shouldn't need my mother to hold my hand through all this but she's insisting.

Good-luck to you!   If you have no luck getting  your results I would go to the office and have them copy it right there for you.

Take care.

Hi. I have a 3.3 cm cyst on my rt ovary (October US).  Don't know what kind.  Requested a copy of my report over a month ago and reminded them twice and still have not got a copy.

Anyway, yes i have pain and problems similar to yours.  The pain I've had over the last two days reminds me of my labor pains years ago but not quite as bad.  Nasty.  Each month the pain is getting worse and my menses is disappearing.  I'm down to 1 day with a few days of sparse spotting.

I have had a cyst before on that rt ovary when I was about 22 yrs ago with no symptoms. Then again about 5 years ago it was tiny and the doc told me it was a functional cyst at that time and never rechecked it.  Not sure if this is the same one or a different one but I suspect it is a different one.

Someone else will be along that knows much more about cysts soon.
