Laparoscopy ---- that was easy!

Hi all,
Thanks for all your thoughts......  you are all great to share on this forum!!!  I am 3 days post-op....  I had a laparoscopy, along with an A & P repair.....a vaginal repair of prolapsed bladder and rectum....  so because of the procedures, my hospital stay was 1 1/2 days.....  they kept a catheter in for a day...then removed it to make sure my bladder was functioning properly.....as far as the lap.... my history was that of intermittent vague pelvic pain and bloating.... the US showed a small ovarian cyst (1 cm) and a uterine fibroid.....  so this was more a a look see to check out any abnormalities.....  the doc removed the cyst on the ovary.... ovary still intact, did a myomectomy, just removing the fibroid, keeping the uterus intact.....  and the clincher and the probable explanation for my symptoms was that I had adhesions on both my ovaries.....which they removed....  I had no idea and it never even entered my mind that that was a possibility....  everything else was completely benign.....  so at my menopausal age of 56 I feel blessed.....  I have officially joined the "belly button club".... with the main puncture in my umbilicus and two other punctures on the right and left side...
All I can say is that the entire ordeal was very easy..... yes it was nerve wracking for months before the surgery thinking about all the horrible possibilities it could be....  the hospital stay was great, treated great....  starting in the pre-op waiting area when the anesthesiologist gives you the good drugs to help ease the anxiety....  then in the recovery room where they start pushing the heavy duty pain drugs (they made me hallucinate)..... and they kept me on a schedule of IV pain meds every 6 or 8 hrs whether I wanted it or not for the first day.....  so now 3 days out.... I came home with a Rx for Vicodin and Motrin....  I took Vicodin minimally  until yesterday.....don't want to take it anymore.... I've been taking Motrin and that seems to be all I need now....  oh also been drinking prune juice and that seems to be helping to keep stools loose...don't want to be busting any stitches down these straining to have a bm......They also mentioned Miralax which can be bought over the counter as a laxative to keep the bowels loose.  also since I've been home my best friend has been a heating pad....that has helped tremendously with the abdominal discomfort.  It's not real pain now, its more like having moderate menstrual cramps (forgot what those were like)...thats why Motrin is working great...Also my abdomen just feels a little sore, like someone punched it.   All in all, it was such a very easy experience.... and now here's what I did to prepare my body for a few weeks ahead of time.....
**I did castor oil packs to my entire abdomen for 2 weeks before
**I took megadoses of antioxidants particularly Vitamin C so tissues could heal faster
**I took supplements that support my immune system
**I ate a healthy...tending towards a more "alkaline" diet
**I jumped on my rebounder (mini-trampoline)
**I did coffee enemas every 2 to 3 days to keep my liver clear (helps to detox the liver)
**I did a complete bowel prep day before surgery with the GoLytely
I am by nature more holistic and alternative and tend to prescribe to more "natural" things so I wanted to have my body as healthy as possible to withstand the stress...and I think it all made a differerence in that my pain is minimal, I had very little nausea after the surgery, I ate some jello a few hours after surgery, I was up walking the halls of the hospital the evening of the surgery,,,,,I am not that tired, my natural energy is returning quickly   Anyways, if anyone is more interested in any of these things, you can google them to get more information, or just ask me and I would love to explain more....if you want to know
Sorry for the long windedness.....  I know there are some of you waiting for your surgeries..... hopefully this may allay some of your fears....  so don't be afraid to ask you doc for a prescription for Valium for your pre-surgery anxiety....
Oh, one last thing......your mental attitude is probably the most important.... so whether you pray, meditate, do self-hypnosis....do something to keep your thoughts positive.....  These past few days has really made me realize and be exceptionally grateful for the people in my life, husband, family, friends who have been there to support me.
Thanks for listening.....
love & blessings,
Ciara

I'm anxiously waiting for my MRI & laparoscopy.  You sound like my kind of gal.  I too believe in the holistic and alternative medicine.  I'll definitely follow your advice.
Thank you & best of luck,
