Large Cystic Solid Mass

I just found out that I have a large cystic solid mass on my left ovary. I am 31 years old. I am still waiting for my CA-125 test results. Due to the size, 7 inch by 3.5 inch, I'm wondering how long recovery time may be. Thank you in advance!

Wow...5 pounds. I am happy for you that you got rid of it and are now healing..and it was benign. Good news, indeed.

It's been 2 weeks since my surgery and now I can finally write about it! I'm doing so much better than before.. still sore, but I have another 4 weeks or so before I go back to work.

I found out that my CA-125 test came back high due to endometriosis. No cancer! Yay! My doctor ended up taking out my cyst (5lbs!), left ovary, and fallopian tube. I will be taking some medication to help with the rest of endometriosis that she couldn't remove.

I can't wait to fully recover!

Best wishes to you for your surgery. I hope it goes well for you and that it tests benign. Write back when you are able.

Know how your feeling my surgery is on 5th October, I've been on sick now since the 2nd August and I can't wait to get back to work. I'm hoping to be back for christmas fingers crossed.
My growth on the 3rd August measured 22 x 19 x 12cm had my last appoitment and pre-op on 19th September where I was told the type of growth I have will continue to grow until it is removed and that from my first scan to my CT scan it had grown more, there was only 2 weeks between my scans.
With the size it is starting to have an impact on my other organs my kidneys aren't working right and my liver function test has come back high, my blood pressure is sky high, but docs says once it is removed my organs should recover I'll just need tests doing to make sure after sugery.

Have you ot your date yet for surgery?

Thank you for responding! Yes, I was measured in cm. I used inches as a better picture... my exact measurements are 13.9 x 6.7 x 11.4 cm. I am scheduled for a laparotomy. I will know more details on Monday during my visit with my Ob MD. I am anxious because I was told that my CA-125 results will be discussed at that time as well. Wish me luck!!!

I am going to read your "about me" section right now. :-)

Thank you for the kind words!

Are you sure the measurements are in inches and not centimeters (cm)?  The centimeter measurement is more traditionally used by doctors.  Either way, we are talking about a rather large cyst, and if solid, it is not something to be ignored for too long.

My cyst was not solid, but it was over 10 cm (over 4 inches) in size.  Doctors tend to use sizes around 5 cm and greater as starting points in recommending surgery.  If it is really that large, open surgery is the more likely recommendation you would get from a doctor.

The recovery time is not great.  At least 6 weeks, and some find they need a bit more than that.  For me, it was more like 8 weeks to feel able to work a full day at a desk job.

My surgery story is in my profile under the "about me" section.  Others have found it helpful in understanding what to expect.  Best wishes to you.
