Ovarian Cysts

I just recently had 2 removed. Is it possible these were causing my acne and weight gain for the passed 2 years? My doctor found it 2  years ago and was monitoring it and now that is was 4 inches and causing pain he removed it. I had so many problems with losing weight and I am only 25. I eat totally right. Could these be the cause?

I know the most annoying thing in the whole world is how complicated this syndrome has to be. I did have my insulin checked and surprisingly it was normal. Is that a good test? Do you know anything about it? I always crave carbs, and stuff just like they say PCOS does to  you. Oh my gosh I just feel so stuck. I'm so afraid that these cysts will grow back having this syndrome. Birth Control makes me sick so I can't take that. I have tried almost 4 or 5 different ones. It just seems like too much hormone.

Oh well...I will just take one day at a time I guess.

I'll keep ya updated!

Well I agree with you. I need to have patience and let all this try to settle back down now that both cysts were completely removed.

I am suffering from 2 bacterial infections from having my surgery and I am just LIVID. I ended up getting a UTI and I am hoping that is it. We are waiting for my cultures to come back!

This has been hell I just hope noone else out there is going through what is happening to me.

I will keep ya'll posted!

It is very confusing how our hormones can affect so many things.  PCOS is quite complicated how it affects many things.  The cysts alone are not to blame.  You are likely fighting insulin resistance that is contributing to the weight gain.  It can make losing weight extremely difficult.  In addition to your hormones, you may want to try a high protein, low carb diet.  This can help keep reduce the insulin resistance.  Small protein snacks (like almonds) spaced throughout the day can help prevent your body from experience the blood sugar changes.  When you are insulin resistance, you can eat low calorie (like shakes or veggies) and still gain weight.  The protein is needed to prevent the carbs from being converted to fat!  So very frustrating!!!! :(

Also, try to walk (or any other activity) 30 minutes a day.  I know this is what we all hear all the time, but it is especially helpful for those with insulin resistance.  In addition, you may want to see an endocrinologist.  Sometimes, drugs like Metformin (which is commonly used for diabetes) can be very helpful for women with PCOS.  Be easy on yourself.  It is hard to have to deal with these types of issues.  I hope things turn around soon!

I would ask your doctor to do a repeat FSH test in a few months.  Give your body time to heal and all of your hormones to get back to normal.  I think that would give a better idea because after surgery your hormones can be out of whack for a few months.  When you have a cyst, it can mess with your hormones also.  Cysts are know for make one "gain" weight, because when they are big, they bloat you.  Give yourself time to heal and then you can go from there.  Please keep us updated on how you are doing.

Thank you Shelly for answering me!

I just saw my surgeon (ob/gyne) yesterday and he advised me he would consider me a low-grade PCOS patient. Some of my blood work shows LH to FSH Ratio being off and then some shows nothing. It's odd, that is why I am wondering if the two cysts that I had would just be the cause of my acne and weight gain. To me...it doesn't sound like PCOS other than the weight gain and acne, which could be ALOT of things!!!!

I get my period normally, everything. Just confusing!!!!!

They could be related.  Have you been diagnosed with PCOS?  This condition causes the acne, weight gain and cysts.  It is important to follow up with your doctor to see if you have this condition.  It may help you avoid future cysts if you get treatment now.  Often, hormones can be out of balance without PCOS and it causes those same symptoms.  Usually, birth control pills are recommended to try to get your hormones regulated in cases where your system is out of balance.

Sometimes, you have to press for answers with your doctor.  They may now draw the connection between all of the symptoms without your addressing this issue with them.  Many women experience multiple cysts without any underlying condition.  Good luck on finding answers!
