Ovarian cyst on morbidly obese

Hello, I'm 24 year old female. I recently found out that I have an ovarian cyst the size of 17cm on my left ovary. Doctor said it's most likely that my whole left ovary will have to go. I'm really scared, terrified even, because I'm morbidly obese and I have to have a laparotomy to remove the cyst and I've never had any kind of surgery, ever. I'm scared of the complications of the surgery during and after and I just wanted to know if there was any other women out there who are or went through the surgery who are also "fluffy" like me? I appreciate any info. Many thanks in advance.

I'm sorry you're going through this! The size of the cyst may necessitate the removal of your ovary but some surgeons with good cystectomy skills can remove large cysts without removing all ovarian tissue. That may be worth pursuing since you're so young. Removal of even one ovary can permanently disrupt ovarian hormone function impairing not only fertility but many aspects of health since ovarian hormones are essential to good health.

I hope surgery goes well! Please post with an update.
