Please help with mom

On a routine CT scan for a kidney stone, my mom was told that she had a pelvic mass measuring 2cm.  She is postmenopausal.  Does that mean she has cancer?  Are a post, menopausal masses malignant?  Does pelvic mass only indicate the ovaries?  She also has fibroids that measure that size.  COuld that have been the pelvic mass?

Thank you in advnace for all your responses

I had a 6.5 cm complex ovarian cyst (with sections) that was just removed this last Monday. I also had an issue with uterine polyps, so I had a full hysterectomy. I am postmenopausal and I was also concerned about cancer, especially since you don't know for sure about that until they go to remove the cyst. Everything turned out to be benign. I am cancer-free and at home recuperating. Having a cyst at an older age does not mean it is cancer. I would advise you to follow up and make sure your mom gets the recommended tests. Take care and sleep tight! Suzy

Hi,
First things first... Let's get that Transvaginal Ultrasound first. That's the best way to know what this might be. If it is a cyst, 2cm is fairly small. She could have ovarian cysts, or Fibroids or both.
I, too, am postmenopausal .. I was having slight pain in lower left side. I had the transvaginal ultrasound. It was determined that I had a very small Ovarian cyst, 2 small fibroids (in uterus) and some fluid on the uterus which shouldn't have been there.
I went on to have a laparascopic procedure to find more information since when you're postmenopausal, they like to investigate further. I was told that I could just wait for a few months but I chose not to. They left the fibroids, because they aren't causing any problem they biopsied everything and it was all benign. I had the ovary with cyst removed .. Simple outpatient procedure.
Now, the only true way to find out if something is malignant is through the biopsy done at the time of procedure. Keep in mind though--- only 95 (or98)% percent of all Ovarian Cysts are malignant.
So, first try not to worry needlessly (I know it's hard).. Have that TVUS if she hasn't already had one, then see what the Dr. advises. And, keep us posted.

Take care,
Sandy

Try not to panic, that is not good for your mom either.  Yes, cysts can be benign after menopause.  Hopefully someone will come along after me and answer your post better, but I wouldn't be too worried at this point. She is seeing the gyn on Monday and that is good. Let us know and prayers are with you.

All the report stated was pelvic mass to follow up with gyn.  SO she is going on Monday and I am so worried.  I  was  not able to sleep last night.  I'm hoping what they should as the pelvic mass was her fibroid.  Is that possible on a ct scan.  Are all post menopausal cyst cancerous?

She has no family history.  She does however suffer from ovarian cyst (benign), fibroids and breast cyst (benign) since she was in her 30's.  She is now 56.  She has had her regular physical along with a brain ct for migraines a lung ct for possible e mphysema and thank God all results were clear,m only a severe sinus infection.  She suffers from constipation for 10 nyears now due to her IBS.  Her weight is stable.  Her ct scan was a few months ago and due to her medicaid this is when she finally got her appointment, so I am so scared it has already spread and it might be too late.  I am an only child and love my  mom to death.
If I can please get some support through Monday. PLEASE

Than k you and God bless

You don't say, but is your mom planning on getting a transvaginal ultrasound to see what is going on?  Has she been to her gyn?   She should have it checked out and that would be the first thing to do.  Let us know,
Colleen

A pelvic mass could mean anything, it could be the ovaries, or the uterus, or not involved with the reproductive system at all.  You can't say if the mass is malignant without further tests, so don't stress about it yet...don't jump to conclusions or assume she has cancer without more info.  Fibroids are usually associated with the uterus as far as I know, so it's possible that was the mass they saw, but I would think they'd tell her that the mass was around her uterus.
