Side effects

I recently had a cyst removed about the size of a grape from my left ovary, however when we went into surgery my dr found one the size of my uterus behind my uterus attached to my right ovary.  As a result due to shape n size n history my dr removed my rt ovary.  I cannot go on birth control since I've had breast cancer 2 yrs before.  I'm currently 37.  & feel the effects of hot flashes.  I'm just wondering is this to be expected? & if so what else should I expect.

I recently had an ovary removed as well and have not experienced any hormonal changes.  Are you on pain medication?  Night sweats could be explained by that.  I wouldn't think that the removal of one ovary would cause this, and if it does, it should be temporary, assuming your other ovary is functional.  Maybe since the other ovary had a cyst removed, it is not functioning?  I would check with the doctor at your follow up.

Hi, I had a small cyst removed from one of my ovaries and the exact same thing happened to me. Within 5 days I had hot flashes. Post surgical ovarian failure, whilst uncommon, is a real risk with these surgeries and I was never advised of this risk before my op so I am very upset. I now have to take birth control, and all because of a benign cyst. I get migraines from the pill and I shouldn't be taking it either. I wish I had just left the cyst there. But given your history, I guess they do have to extra careful. Good luck, and I hope things get better for you.
