Even with the septation and nodule, the odds are very much in your favor that the cyst is benign. Ovarian cancer is rare with a woman's lifetime risk being only 1.3% so 13 out of 1,000 women.
Most cysts end up going away on their own but this is less apt to occur with cysts that appear to be complex. What is the size of this cyst?
Since all surgery has risks, you don't want to undergo surgery unless it's necessary. And more importantly, if you do have surgery, you want to be sure the surgeon can remove just the cyst if the frozen section biopsy shows it is benign. Unfortunately, far too many women lose ovaries unnecessarily causing more harm than good.
Our ovaries produce health promoting hormones our whole lives. Medical studies show many increased health risks and reduced quality of life after the ovaries are removed even if it's done after menopause.
I hope this helps allay your fears and anxiety and helps with deciding how to proceed. Keep us posted.
Thank you. I appreciate your response and I know that removing this other ovary will be a life-changer. I am not happy about any of this...it's been 2 straight months of tests - and HELL.
I am sorry that you have suffered so much - I see that you have posted so many responses to many people.
It's good folks like you, who give people a true ear and a shoulder to lean on. You have no idea how much it helps.
Many people post a question or a few - and then never come back to say how they made out. They say they will, but they don't...
It is like reading a book with the last chapter ripped out.
I will be back, no matter what.. to share my experience.
Again, thank you.
"A little over an inch" is very small. I'd question having it removed as it may very well resolve on its own. Hemorrhagic and dermoid (also called mature teratoma) can also have nodules and both of these are benign types of cysts with hemorrhagic typically resolving in 8 weeks. If your ovary is also removed or damaged such that it cannot produce adequate hormones for the rest of your life this predisposes you for many serious health problems. These include heart disease, osteoporosis, lung cancer, dementia, Parkinsonism, mood disorders, sleep disorders, skin changes, muscle atrophy, glaucoma and other ocular changes, vaginal and urogenital atrophy, sexual dysfunction.
Unnecessary removal of female organs (hysterectomy as well as oophorectomy) is an epidemic in the U.S.
I personally wish I had listened to my intuition when my gyn of 20 years told me I needed to undergo surgery and quickly.
Hi.. and thank you for your response!
Well, yeah - the gyn called me and told me that we have to remove it. I had my ca125 drawn the other day. Big whoop, I'm not in Menopause yet... what's the point of this test? It's not going to change the fact that the Mural Nodule is there... My cyst, she said, is a little over an inch.
I already lost the other ovary 20 years ago.. It was all benign stuff - but they took it all and now.. I'm dealing with this... I can't go on emotionally... much longer. I have a lot of trouble each day at work.. and my home life is not much better. I really feel lost - the depression is hard to take. I'm hiding it well because I am a caretaker to my mom... and my dad is an old man.... I live with them - and they don't get what I'm going through. No one does..... I swear... That's why I'm here... THANK YOU and I am sorry for what you went through!
Auto Correct changed my words. SEPTATION ! Not separation. Dang auto correct!
