What Is Wrong With Me?

I am 19 years old and live in oklahoma. After turning 19 my insurance was dropped and I am scared to go to the emergency room because of what they charge and im terrified of hospitals. I have had one ovarian cyst last year in dec. and was put in the hospital. I never had surgery but the pain was something I had never went through before. It was unbearable. I believe the same thing is back and its not as bad but it still worries me. I have two questions. When a woman gets cyst's like this can she and will she still be able to have children. My other question I have is might there be something I can do to prevent the cyst from reappearing. My husband and I have been trying to have children for the past year or so and this is the only thing I can think of that would prevent us from having them. Please someone help me figure out what is going on or how to stop it. I really want children and it would be a heartbreaker for me not.

I don't think cysts prevent you from having children, but you could also have endometriosis which is painful and I believe does cause some problems with getting pregnant.  You need to make a list of questions for your doctor so that you can be informed when you go for your visit.  I was told that cysts do not cause urinary problems, but after being on the forums for almost a year, I have found that most of the women with cysts did have urinary problems. You need a good checkup with a vaginal ultrasound to see what is going on.  Please call around to see if you can get some help financially, either a clinic or a doctor that will take payments. Good luck and hope to hear back how you are doing.

thank you all so much for you advise. Im still very concerned because I haven't been yet and it will go away for about 2 weeks and then the pain is back again. This month was worse than the last but i just feel that if i continue to "ride out" the pain that it will eventually go away. As for being pregnant we are still trying and nothing. I will let God deal with that because I can't find anything on how to help my fertility. As for the cyst I will be going at the end of this month if the pain continues. Do you know if it hurts when you urinate. I am having some pressure on my ovary areas and i wander if that go along with the cyst!

You can always go to the emergency room and they will treat you. As long as you pay them something each month, as little as $5, they cannot come after you for the money. They might try but as long as you are paying them, you will be fine. If you don't have insurance at all, sometimes, they will lower the bill also.  You just have to be firm about it and not let them intimidate you.  When I was in the hospital after having emergency surgery, the finance dept called me in my room, only 1 day after surgery, asking me about payment. I told them I was sitting upstairs in their hospital, in pain, and they could call me sometime after I got home, sheesh!

You are right, emergency room charges can be pricey but often times they are more than willing to set you up on a payment plan and work with you. Your health is worth WAYY more than a hospital bill. Go in and get checked. As for getting pregnant, I asked my dr about it when I went for surgery and as long as you have an ovary(even partial) you are ok to conceive. I don't think you can prevent cysts but depending on they type of cyst, catching it and removing it before it gets bigger, twists or bursts is important AND will save you money from a future surgery when something worse happens, plus if you don't remove it and it bursts, sometimes they end up having to take the ovary. Better to be safe than sorry, even if it means going without a few luxuries for a while.

I'm not American but I thought that if you went to a public hospital that they had to treat you regardless of insurance?  There are women here who have gone on to have children after cysts.  If you currently have a cyst it could be affecting your fertility.  Regardless you do need to have it looked at.  If the cyst has twisted (torsion) it could cause problems to the ovary and hence your fertility.  Please get this looked after.  Good luck and please keep us posted.
