What is an echogenic mass?

I forgot to ask what an echogenic mass is.  Is it usually benign?  I am a little fearful that I have Ovarian cancer.  I had pre-cancer cells in my pathology when I had my hysterectomy.I had a ruptured cyst on our vacation and I have a lot of symptoms.I fell so much pressure on my rectum.I never feel fully evacuated.I have pressure and discomfort during intercourse plus the cyst on the outside and inside my left ovary.I have some problems holding my urine.I am 40 years old.My dr is doing a follow up u/s in 3 weeks to see if the mass is shrinking.  a few months ago my primary thought I had a rectecele and 2 drs did not agree.one dr thought it was all muscle.  I need help.It is hard to wait.  Thank you ladies.  I will keep you all in my prayers.  So many women with so many needs.  I am grateful for you.

hi, i'm a girl of 19 years of age. I started having like 10days of menstral flow
4 like six mnths now accompanied wit serious pain, and clotted blood.nd heavy flow for the first 6days. I was stil a virgine at d first 3months that dis issue started. I visited a doc at d 4th month nd gave me some drugs. Bt no changes other than that the drugs do weaken me. I decided to go for an ultrasound at d 6th month which shows hyperechogenic mass at the cntre of the uterus. Which was concluded as missed abortion bt i dt agree wit dis . Cn missd abortion be d real problem?

I have undergone for an ultrasound to rectify my kidney stones. the report also says "Echogenic glanular mass seen at right corner of the base of urinary bladder.No significant residual urine is noticed" is there anything to fear? please advise me.

I did a sono and the result say that there is a mass of 1.7x1.9 on my right middle of kidney. This could be an Anigiolipoma they say.
They recommend that i take a CT but i looked up Angiolipoma and is nothing than a small fat tissue.
Do I really have to take CT? I don't have any pain.
The only thing is my blood work and my urinalysis lab shows RBC there is blood of 4-10.
Does any one can help me what's going on?

I was advised by my gynecology to go for ultrasound since i am looking for a child and i discovered in the scan result i am having echogenic complex mass in my right ovary measured 41mm & 42mm in size which i did not noticed in the scan i did in February this year measured 33mm by  33mm. I pray this would not result into surgery or what is your medical advice for me because i need a child of my own. there was no trace that i am even ovulating, i need your help.

I just got ultrasound results back to find the left sided pain I've been having is from a 2.1 cm echogenic mass inside the left ovary. There is a strong family history of cancer including ovarian ca and I am worried although my Dr doesn't seem to be. The pain is there, gets worse when physical activity is done and around the time of period, I am usually on the floor in fetal position. She said wait for two more cycles then another ultrasound and decide what to do, probably surgery.. why the wait. Am I being paranoid? This is scary and she didn't seem to care.

hi i have jus recived my results from scan it says echogenic mass in left overy 18x14x18mms may b endometrioma my only sytom is bad pain in my left side im booked in 4a laparoscopy within 3months does any1 have any thoughts on this im worried and would b so gratefull 4 any advice thank u so much my overy is alot smaller on this side to x mandy

Hello Mickey...I recently had a retroperitoneal ultrasound done and it showed a 2.4 cm x 1.4 cm solid mass extending from left posterior wall of the urinary bladder ...am schedule in a couple days for a CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis...my abdomen always feels distended almost like i am pregnant....my bowel movements (whenever i have them) are far in inbetween..i don tlike to use laxative because i dont want to get to dependent on them...I am scared to death...but as the doc says its not time to worry yet.any feed back would be greatly appreciated

THe word in my report I didn't get fully explained is homogeneous.  I found "having uniform structure throughout" But it is also complex. So I guess it is solid? But is that good or bad??? My doc's office does the report not the hospital radiology so info in them is scarse.

Thank you.  I had a ct 3 weeks ago and the mass was 5cm.  In the U/S last week it was 1.7 by 1.6 echogenic mass with slightly increased blood flow.  What do you think about that?

So, it has reduced significantly in size, and has 'blood flow'...my guess would be that you possibly have a hemorrhagic cyst.  Hemorrhagic cysts often have debris within them that reflect the sound wave, hence the echogenic nature of these cysts.

Mickey is so right! There are many, many types of benign masses that are echogenic - hard to say which one you have. How big is your cyst/tumor/mass? Did they tell you? Did they call it a simple, complex or solid lesion? Just curious. It's amazing to me how many digestive symptoms even a little cyst can give women. The big ones do the same thing, along with pressing on organs, usually the bladder or the rectum. They can create all kinds of chaos inside. It sounds like they are following up with you and that's a good thing. Your symptoms will probably resolve just as soon as they get it out. Hang in there, we're with you.

Echogenic means that it has an echo; in other words, the mass returns the ultrasound  sound wave, and thus is an indication that there are solid areas to the mass.  These days, medical practicioners do not consider a mass that is echogenic  to be more or less likely to be benign or malignant.  At one time though, this description was thought to indicate a greater chance of malignancy.  However, as you have likely noticed, there are quite a number of women posting on this forum who had varying degrees of 'echo' in their cysts and tumors who still had benign diagnoses.

Has anyone sent you for a CT or MRI to better study this mass?  It seems that you have severe symptoms, even if the mass is benign, it needs to be resolved (mostly likely through surgery) for your well-being.
