dermoid symptoms

Hi, I am having surgery in next couple if weeks for what they think is a dermoid. It was 11cm at last scan (about a month ago) but I am more and more uncomfortable everyday and in more pain, my stomach seems to be getting bigger by the day and I have excessive discharge, also a general feeling of unwell. Is this normal and could it have grown in this time? If so does this cause more chance of rupture or more damage? Any help would be most appreciated as really fed up!

I cannot beleive they have given you a pre-op without an op date!  When I had my pre-op last week, she said they normally give pre-ops about 1-2 weeks beforehand, I got both my pre-op and op date in the post together.  Hopefully then your surgery will be in the next 2 weeks. Fingers crossed.  How do you feel?

I feel worked up completely, worrying its still in there.  I just really want it out, I am going to see my gyno tomorrow at 11 clock and found out my options.  I feel like I am just existing at the moment.

Shelby, have you received a date for your op yet?  Mine was cancelled today because I found out I was 7 weeks pregnant, I cannot believe it, after years of trying I get pregnant before an important op.  I still have this dermoid.  I feel I cant be happy because I still have it, I am seeing my Gyno on Thursday and I am hoping he will agree to take it out in week 14 of my pregnancy.  I hope you get sorted soon, especially because of your symtoms.  Its amazing how different NHS systems work around the UK, I was seen really quickly, ableit them not taking it out first time during my laporscopy.

You could be feeling all those things with the cyst at the last known size of 11cm. Often they tell you a certain size prior to surgery and then relate a different size after surgery. It is hard to say whether that means the cyst is still growing or if they can only get an approximate size prior to surgery. Your symptoms are "normal" for a person with a large cyst. I am glad you are scheduled to have it removed. I would just recommend that you not exert yourself and avoid vigorous physical activity that might lead to a rupture. You are not going to feel better until the cyst is removed. Until then, pain management with medicine and heating pads should help. You might also have difficult bowel movements. I increased fiber in my diet to help with that problem when I had a large cyst.
