need more understanding about complex ovarian cysts

I have a history of rectal/vaginal sarcoma and underwent some rather extensive abdominal surgery 4 years ago. Recently, due to abdominal pain I had a CT scan done which showed a complex cyst in my right adnexal region. A follow up ultrasound was done which showed the following results: RIGHT OVARY: Complex partially cystic mass is seen in the right
adnexa measuring 10 x 5 x 9 cm. Volume: 223 cc.
Solid appearing component measures 6.5 x 5.3 x 4.5 cm. No definite
internal vascularity seen by color Doppler imaging. Peripheral
arterial flow is present.
LEFT OVARY: 2.1 x 1.4 x 1.8 cm. Volume: 3.0 cc.
Follicles (up to 2.4 cm): Normal.
Cysts (greater than 2.4 cm): None.
Masses: None.
Arterial Flow: Present.
FREE FLUID: None.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: None

IMPRESSIONS:

Complex partially cystic mass is seen in the right adnexa measuring
10 x 5 x 9 cm. Solid appearing component measures 6.5 x 5.3 x 4.5
cm. No definite internal vascularity seen by color Doppler imaging.
A complex cystic lesion in the right adnexa measured 7 x 4 cm on the
PET/CT from September 6, 2012 and 8 x 5 cm on the CT scan from
5/15/2014. Malignancy is not excluded

Any help with understanding these results would be appreciated. I'm a bit frustrated with my doctor at the moment and his failure to take me seriously or explain these results to me. He did order a follow up MRI and a OVA1 blood test.

hi...i too had a 9.5 complex cyst on left ovary and 3.5 on right..due to my age and family history of breast cancer my surgery consisted of total hysterectomy, both ovaries removed, lymph nodes and omentum removed. unfortunately they cannot tell until these things have been biopsied wether or not they are in fact malignant.....mine, as most other complex cysts turned out to be borderline......although the surgery is extreme and my results were good i think i would of preffered things this way rather than finding results were malignant and having to have further surgery....looking at your report it seems that the cyst has grown from the scan results from sept 2012. this would seem to be the cause for concern.

I am sorry for your prior cancer diagnosis and surgery. I also had a complex ovarian cyst of the same size (9.5cm). MOST ovarian cysts, even suspicious looking complex ones, are usually benign. However, with your pelvic cancer history, this would certainly seem more concerning. And large cysts have the risk of causing the ovary to twist on itself (ovarian torsion) which can be extremely painful and cause the ovary to die likely putting you in an emergency situation.

Unfortunately, I was over-treated by my long-time gynecologist. Instead of removing just the cyst (cystectomy) and then sewing me back up when the frozen section came back benign, he proceeded to remove the rest of my sex organs. I have been suffering the effects ever since.
