ovarian cyst

I have an cyst of my left ovary. It was 4 cm 4 weeks ago now 1/2 an inch bigger in just 4 weeks. I am having pain in that area. My doctor wants to wait 8 weeks to see what the cyst does in that time. I will most likely have to have surgery to remove it. I was wondering how long you have to stay in the hospital after the surgery. I have 3 children.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
HI,
Ovarian cysts of size less than 5 cm are more likely to be functional cysts of the ovary. Many times they regress spontaneously. Hence a wait and watch policy may help. Other options are aspiration of the cyst or removal. Removal if done laparoscopically, the recovery time will be faster consisting of a few days. Consult your Doctor.
Hope this helps.
