You can have an ovarian cyst without having PCOS. Sometimes if they are larger and painful they will do surgery. Your doctor should be able to determine if the cyst will resolve on its own. Usually they will have you take bcp for a month or two to get rid of them while your ttc. Also a no sugar diet is recommended for PCOS patients.

PCOS causes cysts, hence the name "polycystic ovarian syndrome". Most of the time, these cysts won't do you any harm as long as you take care of them. I have PCOS in its early stages, showing no cysts yet but I go in every so often for ultrasounds that monitor if cysts are forming.

Many women I've talked to who get the cysts have them surgically removed. Your doctor will look at the cysts and decide whether or not to do surgery. But it is your body, and if you think surgery would be best, then you could always suggest it so he or she can monitor you and give their opinion.

While cysts are painful and scary, you don't need to worry. Your cyst is a little big, but deffinately treatable. Write down whatever questions you have and bring them up to your GP.

I am curious, but don't feel obligated to answer if you don't feel comfortable: Do you see only your GP for the PCOS, or do you see a specialist? I am 16 going on 17 and I see an Adolescent Medicine Specialist who helps with medications and handles everything amazingly well. There are gyno's who specialize in PCOS, which is what I'll be seeing once I turn 20 and I no longer qualify for the AMS program. You could always ask your GP for suggestions. Sometimes, its worth the little extra money to have a specialist in your medical issue, especially with something like PCOS.

I wish you the best of luck!

I've had a cyst removed but a bunch of other work done at the same time. It wasn't that bad of a recovery for me. It was done thru a scope. I had cramping and bleeding and you feel bloated from the gas they use to inflate your belly. If its a scope there are usually only about two tiny incisions made one in the belly button and one near the pubic bone. And I do have PCOS which is challenging ttc but I'm trying to make the best out of it. Good luck with your surgery!
