septated mildly complex ovarian cyst

I have recently been diagnosed with a 2.5 x 1.3 septated left ovarian cyst. This was found during a routine checkup.
A Transvaginal US was done and although the radiologist suggested repeating in six months, I have a close family history of ovarian and breast cancer. I opted to see a gynecologist who repeated the US and said it was a mildly complex septated cyst.  He gave me the option of having the ovaries removed or waiting 3 months and redoing the US.
I am leaning toward having the ovary removed. I am 57 years old and had a partial hysterectomy when I was 38. I've been through menopause and don't want to take the chance on something more developing. Am I crazy?

Just a quick note to update you all.  My surgery was scheduled for Jan. 15, but I got a call from the GYN office saying he was not going to be there and so it has been rescheduled for Feb. 5.  It will still be done early. I'm still sure everything will be fine.  I just want to get the ovaries out and not have that to worry about.
Thanks for all your prayers.
Blessings and peace to all.

Thank you for your encouragement. I decided to have outpatient laparoscopic surgery to remove both ovaries. This will be done early in the morning on January 15.  I am diabetic so they said I'd be done early.
I just can't take a chance with this.  We have just learned that our daughter and her husband will bless us with a new baby sometime next summer.  My son has a 7 year old and a 7 month old and having 3 grandchildren and hopefully a lot more, I want to be the best grandmother I can be able to spend a lot of time with them.
I'll let you all know how it goes.
Blessings, peace and good health to you all during this most blessed of seasons and in the new year.

Hi, I think I'd want to do the same in your situation, especially with the family history. I agree with Trudie that peace of mind is very important.. and , do let us know how things are going for you..
