small question-swimming

I live in Phoenix and it's going to be close to 100 degrees on Friday.  Friday will be 15 days post laparoscopy for me.  I have recovered very well (other than fatigue).  My incision sites are pretty well healed and still have glue over them. I've been showering since the day after surgery.  Do you think I can go swimming on Friday?  I could probably call my doctor and ask but it's not the most approachable office.  If anyone here has had similar experience, I'd prefer to save my doctor's calls for more important questions.  Thanks:-)

Thanks for the great feedback (love this forum).  Maybe I just will call the office tomorrow.  After all, they have a few thousand of my dollars, I guess they could answer one little question!!

Even if your doctor's office isn't the most approachable, you should really consult your doctor on this.  It is their JOB to be there to answer your questions.  It is not advisable to swim too soon after surgery because your inside is not healed as well as the outside.  I'm also wondering if the chemicals in the pool could interact with the glue holding your incision together.  Swimming does use your abdominal muscles, but if you are going to just relax (like float on a raft) your doctor may approve it.  Best to call your doctor to seek his advice.  Good luck.  Could you send some of that sunshine and warmth to Indiana??  LOL

When I had my laporoscopic surgery my instructions were "no bathing, swimming or hot tubs" until approved by the doctor.  My post-op was 3 weeks after surgery and he approved bathing after checking out my incisions.  So I'd recommend that you check with your doctor first - not only regarding the incisions, but also since swimming does use abdominal muscles and it could affect your healing.  Just my opinion.

Oh, forgot to mention--I'm not planning on swimming as in exercising.  I just want to soak in the cool water!
