I have been reading the posts on this site, and I, too, had a really abusive childhood. I have severe PTSD, along with depression, and have been in treatment since the age of 12 (I'm now 56). I have had ECT treatments (shock therapy), every med known to man, cognitive therapy, you name it, I've had it.
I have known for a long time about EMDR treatments, as they use this treatment on vets coming home from combat with PTSD. I have wanted it, but it was pretty much unheard of and hard to find anyone who did this treatment until recently, as it is becoming mainstream and more popular.
I have started this treatment (it's got to do with eye movement, no drugs), and it is really working!!! I have had to go to therapy first to become more "stabilized" to get this treatment. You have to be able to deal with this treatment, because it brings all the trauma back to the forefront, and then erases it. So, since you have to remember everything, you get worse before you get better, but IT'S WORTH IT!!!
I have known 4 people who have gone through this treatment, and they have said it works MIRACLES. It is starting to work on me. And I went through 18 years of sexual, physical, verbal and mental abuse by the hands of my mother and her "johns".
Just trying to help anyone who wants to try this treatment. It is a lifetime "cure", once you've had it, you don't have to go back for "tune-ups". Unless, of course, you have another trauma. But, let's hope not.
You might want to ask your doctor or therapist if they do this treatment, or if they know someone who does. When I first found out about it, my doctor said I couldn't have this treatment because my trauma was too severe and lasted "too long". She said it was for people who have gone through one traumatic event. This is NOT TRUE. Don't let them tell you that. You may need talk therapy for awhile before you are ready for this treatment, but it still works.
Good luck, everybody.
Now, does anyone know about MPD?
