you really really need to go to your doc and ask this exact question. you could even read it to her (woman doc preferred--get one). and then follow her advice. worry affects your child too and this will help with that. I do hear you about how hard it is with back pain-with a 4yr old. Hey! Ya did good finding this spot! And posting! I think you are going to be just fine and keep us informed OK? om yogadon
I took hydrocodone as prescribed throughout my pregnancy and my baby girl was fine. No withdrawls, a couple of weeks early but almost 8 lbs. She's almost 3 now and developmentally ahead of the game, very smart and healthy.
I did quite a bit of research when I was pregnant, and worked with my pain doctor and OB-GYN together. The general medical consensus is that, although conclusive clinical testing has not taken place, there is enough anecdotal evidence to assume that opiate pain medication is safe during pregnancy when taken at low or moderate doses, as directed, and under medical supervision. The only accepted risk is possible withdrawl syptoms in the infant after birth, and those can be managed easily. As long as the mother is honest with her doctors and taking her meds as prescribed, it is generally thought to be more beneficial for the mother to take her pain medication, be in less pain, and therefore be more physically active and in better emotional health.
Do you have a gynecologost? Who is treating you for your pregnancy? I guess there are websites that you can look up\\at.
