Another question

When I go to the pain dr, I am not saying he will give me any meds but if he does I was wanting to ask this question. I am hoping he makes me appt for a nerve block at his closer office cause I have seen the guy there that does it and he does it right.
Anyway I don't want to be a pain in his butt but I also don't want to be on very strong meds. Like Sherry has said with my age I don't want to start out with hard meds since I have been told this problem wont go away the damage is done and I have to live with it.
The stronger med I will take is percocet, I don't want anything stronger then that. When I was on percocet it did wonders for my pain but I could still feel it but I was able to do what I wanted in my life.
What do I say if he wants to put me on anything stronger? The back up dr tried to put me on morhine, I don't want on that strong of a drug and he got upset and i told him I don't want on that cause it is to strong, I don't want my doctor getting upset with me, I want to know what to say if he wants to me to take something stronger that I don't want too?
My mom emailed me today and she is very upset with the way I am right now, she said that if i was closer she knews my dad would be right here taking me to a doctor and making him treat me so I can eat. I think this is causing alot of stress on my mom so I am not going to tell her anything else and I asked her to promise me she wouldn't tell my dad cause he would be very upset. I know I am not in good shape and I am trying the best I can. She is so mad about the weight I have lost, I should of never said anything to her but she is like my best friend and I can talk to her when I need too but I will keep quiet about it for now on. She has to go to the dr tomorrow cause she is having alot of pain in her legs, she just got over being very swollen and she is scared she is getting swollen again. Me adding stress on her don't help matters at all and I am so sorry did it but she will fight with me til I tell her the truth how I am doing.

I am starting to have trouble driving so Im going to have to write that down. My eye hurts so darn bad and when I am driving I have to move it more so it hurts like crazy so I am going to have to cut down on my driving now :(

Yes, oxycodone, NOT oxycontin.  I would never cut a continuous release med in half, I can only imagine.  
Jamie, hopefully they will do more for you than motrin or darvocet.  It would be a good time, while your anxiously awaiting the appt, to write down all the questions and concerns you have.  I find that helps me gather my thoughts and relaxes my anxiety over the coming appt.

Well just like Mellie said her mom use to say "Better days are coming" Since she told me that I keep telling myself that. It may not be in a week or a month but it will be here.
I guess I won't call the other office but I am putting my trust in her hands that she is NOT lieing to me again.

I already plan to just tell him how I have been doing lately and answer his questions and go from there. I will take any kind of treatment he is wanting to offer. I was just asking so I could be ready for this appt. I know there is a big chance treatment wont start and I am ready for that. I just know I will have to suffer longer, not sure how I will do that.
If he offers me motrin I will smile and take it even tho it don't do anything for my pain well i won't smile cause it hurts too.

PLEASE listen to Jaybay and EVERYONE. You can't continue to try to figure out WHAT he may or may not GIVE you. You HAVE to let HIM TELL you  what he WILL give you not the other way around!! Just pretend that you no nothing about ANYTHING and let him talk. IF he offers Darvocet, I know that's not going to happen, BUT if it does ALL you can do is to say OK. You DON'T have ANY choices this time. Just  quit all of this STRESSING and wait until the 20th. It's not helping anything at all with what you are doing!!

As Sandee said, in YOUR case just sit and listen and DO WHAT THEY ASK. Then after a month IF it isn't working then look elsewhere.

Jamie, you're going to have to calm down.  You're already projecting the course and outcome of your appointment and now you're tweaking out.  All you need to do is calmly explain what is happening and then wait and let the doctor present his treatment plan.  If you question everything he wants to try then things definitely will not go the way you want.  That doesn't mean that you don't ask questions.  What you want to avoid is going in with a preconceived list of treatments that you will or won't try.  That's the doc's job.  If you're unsure about any medication or treatment, then by all means ask for clarification.  Remember everyone telling you to breathe in the past few days?  It's time again!  :-)

Is it the oxycodone? Because if it is oxycontin you should never cut them. It destroys the time release and can cause you to overdose as it will deliver all the medicine at once.

My PCP took me off 6 lortab 10s a day to put me on the 50 mg patch.  I thought at first "This is a heavy med, I hope it doesn't knock me out" but when I first put on the patch I kept waiting for it to really "kick in".  Then when they switched me from the patch to morphine (MS Contin 30mg)  I thought "This is a really heavy med, this one is definetly gonna make me loopy", but it really didn't either and I barely felt it work.  
One reason they may want you on morphine as opposed to percoset is that it's a long-acting med for CP.  It's really the best treatment for CP as there is less chance of taking too many and running out and it keeps a constant pain control level.  They may also do a MS Contin with percoset for BT.
After that the switched me to methadone and the methadone just didn't work very well.
I thought it would be great when the new doc switched me to the high-dose oxycodone, but I have found that it's really not great for long-term pain relief. That was one that I actually wasn't expecting to knock me out like it did and when I first took it, I realized that I had to cut them in half and work my way up.   I'm pretty disappointed in it right now, and now he's wanting me to wean down.
I don't mean to go on and on about myself, just wanted to give you my experience with the long-acting vs short acting meds.

I am counting alot on this appt but then again I am also ready for a let down. If he don't start treatment I guess I will have to suffer til he does. I don't want to find another dr he was so nice to me and told me he would take care of everythign so I am hoping he does.

I have a feeling most of your pain is nerve pain. Be open to any ideas and don't refuse anything because it is not what you want. At this point you have to be open to what they want to try. I have said many times that we hire our doctors and we are responsible for our own care but in your case I would strongly advise listening and doing what they ask and then if it doesn't work then you can move on to something else.
I am very worried that your placing to much on this appointment and if it does not go the way you want it to you will be left crushed and left with no hope at all.
There is always, always other doctor's and other options so do not put all your eggs in this one basket.
Do not obsess over this appointment. They will offer you what options they can and are willing to do and that is all. I do not want to sound mean here I just do not want you to be in such a state if things do not work out that you feel there is no hope left.
This is only one doctor out of millions! Go to your appointment and make sure you give them a clear and accurate, detailed picture of what has been going on and go from there.
All the stress is terrible for pain levels and is not good for you as a whole.
Relax and what will happen will and know there are always other options:)

My Dear, Until you have the NERVE BLOCK you won't know for sure what the pain is. Nerve pain can move around and I think you'll ve surprised when you get it done. I bet it takes care of it all. I'm sertainly HOPING that it will for you.....Sherry

PS Jamie, They MOST DEFINITELY won't give you the patch. You DON'T have toworry about that at all!!!  It won't be an option for you.

Oh I wanted to add that my surgern said that i was damaged by NOT by him. But I did have the pain before him but after he did the surgery the pain got so much worse. I am just wondering what he did that made it worse. I could live with the pain I had before the surgery but the surgery just made things worse but he says he was no where near any of my nerves, so I dont' know what to believe.

They know I withdrawled from it yes I told them that is why I will NEVER take it again. They understand why I don't ever want to be on it again. I just don't want to be on the patch or anything strong but I guess I will have to do what he tells me.
All of my pain is not nerve pain. I have that in my face and then I have pain in my mouth where I have no teeth on the right side, even my wisdom tooth is out. I have all my teeth but on that side. The pain in my mouth is mainly what is keeping me from eating much, cause it is like I have all my teeth there and I have a really bad toothache in all of them. Something was done really wrong there. I told my PMP about the fear of the nerve blocks and told him that not all of my pain is nerve pain and hopely the nerve block will work but I will still have pain in my mouth and he that as long as some pain is taken away from me then he will treat the rest of it. So we will see.
My surgern and ENT told me that I am damaged and it can't be fixed.

Hi Jamie. I would just take whatever the doctor prescribes at this point because you have no medication right now and with the pain that you have it'd be great if you get relief. Does this doctor know that you had a reaction to the morphine?

Jamie,  You may NOT have to live with this the rest of your life.  If the Nerve Blocks work there's a VERY good chance that you won't need ANY meds at all!!!

Well the back up dr jumped right to the mophine and I was on it once and stopped it and ended up in the ER so I really don't want to be on it. I stopped it cause my nerve dr told me too. The pain dr on the first appt said that should of never happen.
I don't want to be on anything strong cause I will have to live with this for the rest of my life and if i get on something strong now nothing will work for me later. I have to think of my kids.

I agree.  Here is another thing also.  Everyone has a different body chemistry and medication works different for different people.  I remember the first time I was put on what is typically considered a strong pain medicine and my mom was so happy because I could function for the first time and did not appear under the influence of anything for the first time.  Everyone is different!

Jamie, they won't start off with strong meds whatsoever.  If you were to receive opioid therapy, they would start you off with a low dose.  You will have to work your way up until you find the right dose and the right combo for you.  Your doctor is not going to be upset with you if you.  You may even want to try the morphine.  It might not be as bad as you think.  Just keep an open mind when you go to this appointment.  I'm sure it will be just fine.
