I was referred to Pompy for an abdominal TAP block.  He gave me one and did not do it properly as I did have one at U of M in Ann Arbor.

When I called the nurse later to ask about how much the injection was going to cost..she told me Dr. Pompy HAD NEVER DONE AN ABDOMINAL TAP BLOCK before.

Please be careful when you get injections done that your doctor knows what he/she is doing.

Pompi is a Pain Management Doctor at Mercy Memorial Hospital in Monroe, Michigan and has ZERO experience of tranversus abdominius plane block injections.  He even acted puzzled when I explained to him the procedure.

In regards to Dr. Pompy in Monroe, Michigan...

I have to say, before my husband went to him, we tried every possible outlet we could, in avoidance, because we too had heard bad things about Dr. Pompy.

I was pleasantly surprised after our first meeting with the Dr, as I found him very knowledgeable, resourceful, caring, and extremely busy.  He has a wonderful staff, all of which are always willing to speak with us, but it is correct that he only does certain things on certain days.  That being said, we had to schedule consults on Mondays or Fridays, pain blocks on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Percutaneous Discectomy on Wednesdays, and refills on Fridays.  BUT...he never turned us down!  He understands that people are in legitimate pain and knows that it is a pressing issue to get those into see him in a timely fashion.  Last minute, he scheduled my husband for a pain block on Christmas Eve in the afternoon, as well as overflowing his pain block appointments to a local "salon" and "pain management clinic" on Saturday's to ensure he can get all of his clients in when he needs to.

I would definitely recommend Dr. Pompy.  If you don't like him, fine, but he can give you a great deal of information or referrals to speak to surgeons, physical therapist, etc...His methods may not work for everyone, but so far so good here.

Everyone has different opinions about Doctors.  While some may love one another may not.  I think giving your opinion is fine but basically saying a member of this forum is probably either an addict or selling drugs because they didn't like a doctor is not ok.  We do not treat people like that in this forum.  Sorry but that is really rude and not the way we treat people here.

Not sure why you are hating on Dr Pompy, me and my fiance both have been seeing him for some time now, he listens, he understands what you are trying to explain, he's a very smart man and understands why or why not otjher different medications should or shouldn't be used at the same time.

Maybe you had a bad expirence with Dr Pompy, my guess is that he wouldn't prescribe you a narcotic because he outwits you and has seen it many times before with people who really aren't in pain either wants a certain drug to sell for a profit or they have an addiction and love the  to get high

You have your right to say what you want as well as I do...my advice..
to the people out here that are in pain and lives around the Monroe area, I would recommend you to Dr. Pompy, he's a very smart Dr, he can have stimulators ordered for you, refer you to a massage threapist, physical therapy, have pain injection or nerve injections done to ease the pain and other ways to help you while he may prescribe you medications to help you get rid of the pain. Dr. Pompy understands pain can interfere with and get in the way of your life style, I am trully grateful he's my Dr. and he has helped me any ways more than any other Dr I have been with.

I disagree with the individual who so disliked Dr. Pompy.  It must be understood that while inconvenient, Dr. Pompy only fills scripts one day/week thus longer visits must take place on other days.  I always found him compassionate and understanding.  He is also very knowledgeable.  My case was very rare and complicated.  I ended up in NYC, but believe Dr. Pompy would have diagosed me himself had he had the resources.

Thanks for your help.  I don't know why Dr's are such jerks in this country.  My mom got very sick in Canada one weekend and the way they treated thier patients compared to the US was unbelivable.  You would have thought we had just checked into a 5 star hotel.
My Uncle has already died from the same disease my mom has just a few months ago and he was 11 years younger.  Our current dr. does nothing.  He does not even pursue other treatments.  He is in the room for less than 1 minute signs the prescibtions and leaves.  If you dare ask him about his treatment plan his response is always "would you prefer that I just stop giving her pain meds" and leaves before you can even respond.  You ask his staff if he is always like this and they never give you a answer.  STAY AWAY FROM dr.POMPY (POMP"***") in Monroe Mi.  I plan on giving this Dr. Rottenbergs office a call on Monday to see what info I need to get my mother into seeing him or his staff.  Anyone else out there with any extra info on pain management centers in the Mmichigan area would be very helpfull to me and others in the same situation.  We are not looking for drugs just Dr's with compasion and other options when it comes to treatment.  Your response was not long.  When you are talking about getting your family members the right care and keep running into ASSHOLES (excuse the language) you need some place to vent your anger.  Thank you for your time.  If anyone has any info that can help people in simular situations please help by responding to this message.  Once agian thanks for your time....  Avoid dr. POMPASS (pompy) in Monroe Mi.  He is a jerk with a I am a God like attitude.  We all know the basics of how the body works Dr's just know what to do when something goes wrong(most of the time).  And because of this a majority of them think they are above everyone else.  I have several degrees, but I don't claim to be the best or smartest person and I know I am not.  They have a few degree's in medicine and they think that makes them better than EVERYONE else.  By responding to these messages you give us the power to make better choices and help weed out the jerks that are just in the business to make money.  Sorry did not mean to preach.  I am just fed up with everyone in the medical business.

I do not have any helpful comment or doctor that might help you, but my grandmother is in the same situation. disabled, in a wheelchair, chronic pain, and she is on methodone and accidentally overdosed on it a couple of weeks ago. we found her in time and she is ok but now her doctor treats her like an addict. she is hospitalized now for nausea and dehydration and her doctor is saying we weren't giving her the medicine as directed and that's why she got sick a 2nd time. he is very cold and rude to her and all of us and his partner on call wanted to give her detox drugs when she was tired (in her hospital bed) and didn't want to wake up and talk. she was not unconcious, just half asleep and when we stopped him as he was about to give it, he lied and said my sister told him she was unconcious, when she was clearly laying in bed tiredly speaking to us. my sister had merely asked him if she was on medication that makes her drowsy. he took that question as my sister saying there was something wrong. until then, we thought her main doctor's partner was a decent dr. we don't like either of them and like you, we are also looking for a new pain doctor for her who cares. she didn't overdose on purpose and we handle her medicine now and she doesn't. he and his partner seem to have no idea what they're doing and must not be used to an old woman in chronic pain needing pain meds. his name is Dr. Stephen Wildern and his partner is Dr. Scott Brasseur in Pennock Hospital in Ionia Michigan. Stay Away from this guy if you're looking for an understanding, considerate, and thoughtful doctor. I hope you and i both find a good doctor for you and the people we care about. People deserve a doctor that actually helps them and doesn't accuse them of things that aren't true to cover their own butts. i don't want her or anyone else hurt any more because of their stupidity. she's in her 70's, has one leg, has had many surgeries and has phantom pain constantly. i've lived with her and cared for her for 5 years. these doctors don't understand and i had no idea where to start looking for one who does until i googled and saw this forum.

Is a referral needed for this Dr.?  My mother is in the same situation.   Her current docter treats her like an addict.  She is permenetlly disabled and their are no opperations that will help.  We will gladlly do any new test they want to run, but i am so tired of seeing her treated like a drug addict.  We are just looking for someone with a little compasion and we are willing to try other forms of treatment.

I never had any problems with this doctor, he ran all the appropriate testing and worked with me on treatment..... It is a great office, and I never felt like I was being mistreated in any way, I never felt like he didn't believe my pain........ If you are just looking for pain meds then I don't know anywhere that will just give you narcotics, they will want to run tests and offer all treatment options which in some cases does include pain meds but they will not just write the rx without being compliant in their treatment....
