butrans patch, no relief yet, does it get better?

so i just started to the butrans patch today around three, it has not touched my pain at all!!!! in fact its gotten worse hence this 3am post lol. i read somewhere that it has to build up in your system for a while before working, anybody know anything about this??? also im having some withdraw symptoms which is odd because i should be receiving enough bup every hour to take care of that..... so confused annoyed and in pain... any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated thanks

Hey tuck, unfortunately they are just not working and i even slapped on another patch (they are the 5mcg) so now i should be getting 10mcg/hr but its done nothing but make me feel horrible and i hurt so much...... i know it was wrong to put on another patch but i was desperate for the pain to go away and im very opioid tolerant...  have been on strong opiates for four years straight now and was on the fentynal patch for a while 50mcg which worked amazing, other than i couldnt get them to stick at first..... I know that i will not get any help from this doc, they even say to give them 48hrs to reply to any messages you leave... I'm finding another doc asap

Hi  Caiti,

BuTrans Patch is fairly new to the market. I'll be interested to hear how it works for you.  The components are similar to the that of Subutex and Suboxone.  The active ingredient in the Bu Trans Transdermal System is buprenorphine just as found in Subutex and Suboxone.

I'm wondering the strength of the patch. If you are considered an opioid-naïve patient the dose is usually began at 5mg. However if you've been on opiates for some time than they usually begin at 10mg.

Where did you apply the patch? The insert should have told you the best areas to place it... and I am sure you followed the recommendations. Things like hair can interfere with the absorption and adherence.

I can't find a site that gives the exact absorption rate/time. If it's similar to other patches, as I assume it is,  it may take 12-24 hours before you obtain the full effects of the medication.

I am sorry your Physician is so difficult to contact. If you aren't obtaining any relief by the time his/her office opens I would still try to contact him. This is suppose to be a good pain relieving med but what is effective for one isn't always effective for another.

I hope you'll notice some pain relief soon. Please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing.

Take Care,
~Tuck

Don't suffer!  Call your doctor and let them know what's going on.  Everyone is very different and even though it may seem the conversion was correct, you could be having some withdrawals.  They can also let you know about your pain.
