Anyone heard of this or tried it for fibro?

Some of you know I've had a very bad flare-up of fibromyalgia after a very long reprieve of it.  Despite all the medication  I'm on for pain for the RSD, arthritis, etc., it just isn't touching the fibro stuff.  My legs ache and are so heavy.  I had a bit of reprieve yesterday and thought I was over the worst of it, but I had another sleepless night and woke up feeling awful again.  There were days last week that I was going up and down the stairs on my bum and hands and knees.

I was in CVS poking around and found this stuff called Temporary Fibromyalgia Pain and Discomfort Relief."  Says it's new and homeopathic.  I lost the receipt and "fibro fog" has me forgetting the price, but I think it was pricey and wasn't going to get it and then thought I don't think twice about spending forty bucks on take-out and what if it helps?  I'm going to give it a try but was wondering if anyone had already tried it with any results?

Thanks for the input!

I was really hoping to get to Arizona in October but it didn't happen.  I wanted to see if my arthritis wouldn't hurt!  Years ago I remember doctors telling my mom to move to Arizona.  She was crippled with it.  But I'm an ocean girl, too.  Can't imagine not having it nearby.  My plan has always been Florida from January to beginning of June.  (I want a white Christmas!)

I may try glucosamine.  They told me my hands were too far gone for it but maybe it will help the hips, knees and ankles.

I've never heard of D-Ribose.  I'll look into that.  I've seen capaicin but never tried it.  (I have 2 different prescription creams that are for small joints.  I forget the name of the first one, but it's very pricey (both are, though I am totally covered.)  The second one is a compounded cream made at a special pharmacy.  It has a number of different things in it, including ketamine, which they say has been helpful in studies.

The weather here lately has been perfect for arthritis and fibro flare-ups.  It takes me so long to move ... I need to be doing serious cleaning so I can decorate for Christmas but I'm so not into it.

I STILL just cannot understand how I can have all this fibro and arthritis pain being on such strong meds.  I would have thought the Fentanyl alone would be enough.

I need to remind myself that there are so many people worse off than me.

Something else to try for fibro is D-Ribose.  It has helped me a lot.

Homeopathic remedies usually mean there are no or very very limited active ingredients in them. Herbs are different and contain active ingredients in larger quantities - much more likely to interact with medications. Check with the pharmacist to make sure before buying homeopathics or herbals.

The homeopathic theory is the carrier (usually an alcohol or lactose) will 'remember' its healing properties. If it says the strenght is 10X it means that the solution is diluted 10%. Then that solution is diluted 10%, and then that solution is diluted 10%. until the solution is diluted a total of 10X.

I personally think it is really expensive alcohol drops, but I also know some people who swear it has made a huge difference in their pain levels.

I take glucosamine and it helps quite a bit (when I actually remember to take it). Capsaicin is supposed to work well as a long term too (although I just use it when I am sore), and besides the occasional irritation doesn't really have any side-effects. The prolonged use of capsaicin lowers substance P in spinal fluid which they think may play a factor in FMS.

I imagine the hurricane issue is much less as well LOL!  I'm just not sure if I can separate myself that far from the ocean.  I'm 2 1/2 hrs away now and that's too far as it is :)
However, warmth + no humidity would certainly be a nice change!

Hi deadgamegrrl,

As a permanent resident of AZ - I'd like to recommend AZ OVER FL as AZ has LITERALLY NO HUMIDITY!!!   Today the humidity is only 11%.  Yesterday the dew point was -2%.  It was a record.  Anyway, my arthritis pain is basically nil after moving here.

Just thought I'd throw that out as a recommendation for a place for people with pain.  :)

Hope your pain lessens QUICKLY!!.......Sherry

Hi,

I saw the same product in Rite-Aid the other day.  I picked it up & read it, but I didn't buy it.  I can't remember the price either (fibro-fog, blondeness, perimenopause, all of the above lol).  I do remember that it said 4-6 weeks minimum to see a difference, and I think it recommended something like taking it 4x a day?
If you do try it, please let us know what happens!  The cold weather is messing me up too - I'm eyeing Florida as a place to move more every day!

I did buy it but haven't taken it yet.  I'm looking at the ingredients ... I'm going to look them up and see.  One is belladonna, which, if I remember right, is a plant that can be poisonous.  I also, somewhere back in my brain, remember it was some sort of drug years ago.  We had a local band by the name.  I bought it at CVS.

Years ago I read about guafenisin treating fibro along with diet and product restrictions but it seemed much too restrictive.  You needed to know every ingredient in anything you ate or applied to the skin.

I guess I'll have to remember what worked for me before ... pool therapy was one thing though it's so bad at the moment that I can't muster the energy to do anything.

My first flareup with this was extremely sudden and severe.  I was lucky that I was diagnosed right away even though it took a few years to ease up.  So many people have it and it takes them years to be diagnosed and they're told they're a hypochondriac and should see a shrink.  Even a lot of doctors considered it a garbage diagnosis.

A gallon of water ... wow.

On the upside, this flareup has been so bad it's distracting me from the joint and nerve and RSD pain.

Maybe I'll check out the fibromyalgia forum here.  I really forgot how bad this gets.  My legs are so heavy they feel like concrete blocks.  I cannot figure out how this pain gets past a 75 mcg Fentanyl patch along with oxycodone for breakthrough pain.

(Though I am taking a break from the oxycodone because it is becoming less effective.  I figure if I take a little medication holiday when I go back on it I can use a smaller dose or take it less often.)

I am convinced this flare-up is directly related to a bad car accident I had in late April.  A lady was blinded by the sun and she T-boned me coming out of a side street.  Ever since then the fibromyalgia has been coming and going but now that it's getting colder here it's getting really bad.

Have not tried it. My hair dresser has it and stays on her feet by drinking a GALLON of water every day. She says it is the only thing that works for her. What can you loose.

I also suffer from severe fibro so I can relate to the pain you're going through (and of course the fibro fog).

I've not heard of this "new" stuff, so can't attest to how it may or may not work.

I would definitely suggest, however, that you ABSOLUTELY check with your pharmacist before purchasing and taking this - even though it is homeopathic, that doesnt mean that it coudln't/wouldn't interfere with some of the meds that you take.  Just remember, all natural doesn't necessarily mean GOOD for you (some pain meds are derived from "natural" sources).  ALWAYS check with your doctor and/or pharmacist before changing any meds.

I figure you never know.  I took Lyrica many years ago for the fibro and I had NO side effects and quite a bit of relief.  At the time, I didn't have my other pain issues.  I credit it for my remission from the fibro (for the most part.)  When they gave me Lyrica last year I couldn't tolerate AND gained 15 pounds in 2 weeks.  I figure maybe my other medications and body chemistry caused the side effects this time around.

Good idea to check with the pharmacist!  I also think I'll see if I can find any reviews on it.  I know a lot of people take glucosomine chondroitin for arthritis and joint issues.  I know a guy who was seriously crippled in his knees and ankles to the point he had to retire.  He took it and in 3 months he said it was like he had no arthritis.  He didn't limp anymore at all.  If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes I wouldn't have believed it.

I had asked my doctor and surgeon about the GC but they told me that my hand was already too far gone.  There was nothing left for it to work on and the joint was all broken, which led me to the original surgery.

Good reminder about the pharmacist!

Hi Mellie,

As you know I don't hav Fibromyalgia BUT if I did, I'd be like you and give it a try!  You might ask you Pharmacist about it.  I bet that they'd know if it DIDN'T work because people would be bringing it back to get their money back, as well as complaining about it LOUD and CLEAR!!!!  LOL

Anything that won't hurt you, I'd sure try once just in case it MIGHT help you.  Who knows - it might be your MIRACLE that you've been looking for to help you with your flare-ups.

Hugs and Love.......Mama Sherry
