Chest Pain Question

Hi its been a whilse since ive been here and its changed alot so i dont know if im posting in the right pace or not any whoos, for years now i often get a pain on the left side of my upper chest when i breath in and it feels like a sharp stabbing pain wich can often be very painful and i have to take short shallow breathes until it goes i havnt really thought about it until today when it came 4 times within 30 mins. im currently 20 and im pretty active sometimes but not all the times before i get the pain i'll feel my heart pounding in my chest or i feel like it skips a beat then 6 times out of 1 i'll get that stabbing pain, i used to be in the armed forces and got turned down in selection the first time as they said i had a heart murmer so i had to goto a heart specialist hospital to have a scan on my heart and they detected a small one but nothing major, can anyone tell me what this is and whats causing it.
i also have'nt been to my GP yet but im planning on to as my fiance is getting worried.

Hi Rick,

Welcome back. Everyone has given you some good suggestions and comments. It is so difficult to determine the cause of chest pain unless you are seen by a physican. Cardiac pain can come in many forms and does not have to be the "classic" symptoms to be trouble.

You may be having some anxiety with your approaching wedding.  Drinking or consuming more caffeine and stress could cause your cardiac muscle to  respond with some PVC's and/or pain.

I hope you will update us on the results of your physician's visit. Good luck to you.
Peace, Tuck

I used to also get those types of pain when I was more active. My doctor told me it wasn't anything serious and is quite common. I don't remember what it's called but it can be when the lining of your lungs get stuck for a few seconds and it hurts when you breathe in because that is when your lungs are inflating and the sac around your lungs gets stretched so it causes a sharp severe pain, but it does not last that long. Hopefully in your case that is all it is and you have nothing to worry about. If it only lasts for a few minutes or so that is probably what it is. I would still mention it to your doctor because you never know.

Anycase, I wish you the best and I hope this puts your mind at ease.

Hello Rick and welcome back to the Pain Forum.

Sorry to hear that your having chest discomfort. You have been to a Heart Specialist which is good. If you have had heart trouble in the past like a Heart Attack, Congestive Heart Failure or Blockages, the Doctor would have told you. Heart Murmurs are common and for the most part are nothing to worry about.

There are many muscles in the area of the chest which can easily become inflamed. Colds can be a culprit of inflammation. Digestive disorders can also create inflammation in the chest wall. If you were to have a Heart Attack, you would most likely have pain in the middle of the chest and down the left arm which in your case does not sound like the case.

To put you and your Fiance at ease, I would make an appt. with your Doctor. He/she will most likely run a few tests to make sure that all is well. Please take care and good luck with the Doctors visit.
