Chest pain when i press really hard

I went to the A& E last night complaying of chest pains but the said it muscle pain, i not convince as there no pain unless i press a bit hard on my upper right near the middle and the pain is under bone! I get pain somtimes in my ribs and back but not enough to put me in agnoy. The put a thing on my finger which was ok and the listen to my chest and chest is all clear. The pain i get when i apply pressure is a dull pain feels like i on the bone but aint sure. anyone ideas i prob boook a doc appiontment 2moro.

but i don't feel pain when i pick up my heavey item in fact i can go through the day with no pain. I only suffer pain when i pressed hard on the only spot where it hurt which is my upper right chest. But today i was geeting really bad pain in my shoulder which hurt more when i breath in. I have Dr 2moro at 11 so will let you know.

sounds like muscle pain to me and why are you pressing on your chest?.......and aggravating it?.......confused?

There is a couple of possiblities and Costochondritis is definately one of them.  Another factor could be that you fell, carried a heavy object or had pressure applied to your chest by some other manor which has bruised either your chest wall or muscles.

I have to agree with Kiddthekatt's description of Costochondritis ... very vivid KiddtheKatt's ;D.  If you have any form of condition that can lead to "loose" joints, Costo is the number one cause of pain in most cases.  This is because the rib's move around more than they are supposed to which in turn irretates the chest wall (and even the muscles) causing them to become inflamed and very painfull.

The sad thing is that most of these issues, such as costochondritus, mainly only occurs in connection with people whom has loose joints or legiments and these conditions are not well known and/or taught (At least the area I know of...not trying to start a war here).  Most doctors I see, when they hear about my condition, goes "Oh!  I heard about that in Uni but the lecturer told us we don't have to worry about it as it is such a rare condition".

This is picking up tho and more and more medical institutions is becoming aware of these conditions.

Sorry about your chest pain, There are a multitude of reasons that could be causing your chest pain. And yes one of them would be muscle pain. As previous stated and I am sure you know that none of us are physicians.

You are making the right choice to see your PCP 2morrow. I assume that your A&E is similar to our ER? In our ER's the first thing they would do is to rule out a cardiac issue. The "thing" on your finger most likely read your oxygen level. If you were having a MI (Myocardial Infarct) or heart attack, I would think you would not just have pain with touch, even firm touch.

Costochondritis is a possibility, so are several other conditions that only your PCP can diagnosis. We will all be interested in hearing how you are doing. Please let us know.

Hi;
  I'm not a doctor but I was DXed with  Costochondritis. It hurts like all get out, I actually thought that I was having a heart attack. It would be a lot faster and easier to google  Costochondritis  instead of me trying to explain it. I'm surprised the A&E didn't think of it, my internist knew when I explained what was happening. It does hurt, and when it flares up I can barely breath, and if I cough I feel like I''m done for. Hope this helps you some.

Hello lain and welcome to the Pain Forum:

I am not a Doctor and cannot diagnose you. In my opinion this sounds muscular to me. The chest area and around the ribs contain many muscles that can become inflamed when an infection whether it be bacterial or viral. It might have been a good idea if the Doctors would have done some blood work.
You may want to make that appointment tomorrow and ask that blood work be done. I wish you well and hope that you resolve your issues. Take care,
