iFalse Negative Urine Test--TWICE??? Need Advice!

Hi,

I am so very new to the boards, so if I repeat a question that's already been asked, let me apologize in advance.  :)

I saw a pain dr for about a year for fibro and , denerative disk disease. From the very first appt with him, he kept pushing for me to have some type of inplant in my head for 30 days.  If that worked, then he would implant it permanently in my back.

After several months, I finally explained to him that the insurance will not pay for the procedure.  His attitude changed drastically after I told him that. About 2 months later, he claimed I failed the drug test (supposedly there was no drugs in my system. He then turned around and offer me medication to help with the withrarals symptoms.  Now, if I were selling the drugs, why would he offer the other meds?

:After that happened, I spoke to my famiiy dr and said she'd take over.  Everything has been fine until this past month when I failed yet another test.  Another false positive.  I KNOW I've been taking the meds, I can't function without them.  I'm at a loss as what to do, or who to contact about it.  Doesn't anyone have any ideas or suggestions?  Would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

DJ

Hello and Welcome to the Pain Mangement Forum. No need to apologize, we see repeat questions but every one's case or situation is different. And this is new to you. So never be concerned about repeated a question.

It must be very discouraging and concerning for you that you failed two urine drug tests. My heart goes out to you. As stated above these tests are not reliable. I have read that the inaccurate rate is as high as 60-80%. Much of it is the failure rate of the person conducting the test. Indeed sometimes samples even get mixed up. Was the chain of custody followed. Did you sign the container and did it never leave your sight from the time you provided it until it was confirmed that it was yours?

And sometimes there are no explanations why we fail these drug screens. Unfortunately it is the best and least expensive form that our PM clinics have of monitoring their pain patients. Our PMP are closely monitored by the DEA.  It's a shame that they can be so inaccurate and no consideration is given to patients that the test may not be accurae. We most always judged and convicted without even a trial.  These PM contracts do not provide for protections the patient, they protect the physician and the clinic only.

Request a blood draw, a blood drug screen. These are far more accurate.

Read and research. See if you can discover why this may be happening to you, not once but twice. There is a lot of good information on the internet to help explain why these things happen. See if you can find which explanation may apply to you. Again. sometimes there seems to be no explanation.

Thank goodness it appears that your PCP has trust in you. Have a heart to heart with him/her and ask how this could have happened.

I wish you the very best of luck and hope that your physician will trust in you again. Please let us know how this turns out for you. I will watch for your updates with interest.

Take Care,
~Tuck

these test are flawed-
The same thing happend to me.  It was  a premployment UA.  I was all ready to show my perscription bottles and explain I was on prescribed meds, but nothing showed up and I've been in PM for 6 years.  I have never had any problems with the UA's at my PM Dr (thank God)
I would maybe ask for a nother test this time a "swab" or a "blood" test since the UA are not accurate.
So sorry youre going thru this, it will pass.  Good Luck!

Are you using? It's ok here no judgement is made, If your doc has you on meds you willfail a teat. I sthis for a job or medical reasons. if meds are precribed by a doctor and this test is for work you just have to tell he lab what meds your on from teh doc and they normally wont fail you for these reasons. If it's pot even if prescribed it is still not ok. hopefully in Ca this will no longer be a problen if it passes in November.
