Hello Sassygal,

This is a very old post and instead of attaching your question to someone else's thread I would like to kindly ask you to please begin a new one. You may obtain better suggestions.

However it is our unwritten policy not to recommend a specific physician or clinic. We do have an affiliation with the Cleveland Clinic which is a fine and reputable facility. I doubt that is close enough for you to utilize. Best of luck.

Take Care,
~Tuck

Hi! I would like to welcome you the Pain Management forum.  As you already know we are a community of chronic pain patients.  I wish there were a doctor at least monitoring this forum but there is not.  But we do offer support, advice and friendship to other chronic pain patients.

Unfortunately we do not do doctor referral on this forum.  What may be good for some may be a horrible choice of doctors for others.  Some doctors don't like their names out in public.

Now, that being said, have you contacted the U of M Medical Center in Jackson?  They may be able to refer you to another pain doc who can help you.  And your insurance carrier may be able to help.  I know it's a bit far but the Medical school in Memphis and the one in Birmingham could be an option.  I wish I could be more help.

Just nosy, but was your husband an athlete?  I found this in Wikipedia about your husband's condition:
Avascular necrosis cut short the football and baseball careers of star athlete Bo Jackson.[28]

Other sports stars with this condition are former NFL running back Garrison Hearst, cyclist Floyd Landis, NFL quarterback Brett Favre, professional wrestler "Superstar" Billy Graham, wrestler Joe Heat, Number one draft pick for the Minnesota Lynx: Ben Dvorak, NBA player Jorge Garbajosa, NHL goaltender Ray Emery and gymnast Jade Barbosa.

In addition to the athletes listed, AVN has affected Edward Van Halen, lead guitarist for the rock band Van Halen, Ed Graham, drummer of the bands The Darkness and Stone Gods, and Micky Dolenz, the drummer/singer of the band The Monkees.

Recent research into the cause of death of Tutankhamun suggests that it may have been a factor in the pharaoh's death.

I just found it interesting.  Sorry if I bored you!!

But I welcome you again.  I do hope you continue to post and ask questions.  And answer any you care to.  We always need new voices and minds here.  You will find us a great support group.  You can always talk to us about anything worrying you about your poor husband.  We are always here to listen and sympathize.

Again, Welcome,
Sara

I don't know about Huntsville or Birmingham, but there are 3 different doctors in Gadsden, Alabama (which is halfway inbetween H'ville and B'ham) that prescribe Methadone for Pain Management,  Sailsbury at Rainbow Pain Management, Connor at PWCC and Muratta at Southeastern.  (I wouldn't suggest the latter because when he gets disgruntled he cuts off his patients meds COLD TURKEY, and he likes to give lots of unnecessary procedural shots (ie: epidurals. caudals etc.)

Pain Management clinics are hard to get into if you don't have a referral and good records.  Good LUCK

Because oxycotin and lorcet I have taken in the past. The only medicine that will help me has been methadone.

In many communities, the only place you can get methadone is through a detox clinic, and you'll have to jump through all kinds of hoops even with them to get it and stay on it.  Because you need methadone for pain management and not detox, I don't think that would be a good route for you to take.  Methadone clinics are in the business of making money off narcotic addicts - not in dealing with chronic pain.  Why do you need methadone in particular?  Have other meds not worked for you?
