Need advice on stopping Hydrpmorphone

I have been taking 4mg orally 6 times a day for a total of 24mg daily in total.

I want to stop and am extremely afraid of the withdraw process. My pain is manageable that I do not need the drug,  I'm only taking it to keep myself from withdrawing.
What is a fast but safe taper? I won't have a rx for it after December 16th and I am currently without a family doctor, but working on finding a doctor that listens.
The chest pain and anxiety is the worst.
What are my options for help?
We have a methadone clinic but I'm not sure I want to go that route, I have a family to support and I need to function daily. I just want my life back and not sure how to reclaim it.

The substance abuse forum has a great bunch of people on it and also has tips on minimizing withdrawal symptoms.  The advice, support and information are great whether you're  addicted or dependent.

Thanks

I will have a very short Window
My meds are running out and no longer have a doctor that will prescribe it.
I am very worried and scared, I need to function.

I'm heading over to the other forum to see what is recommended, it is very scary and I fear its going to be a very long ride.

Hi-
I felt the same as you, but my doc thought that the med was making my pain worse so they asked me to wean off.

I was taking a similar dose to you for a few years. Long story short, I worked with my doc very closely.

The first month she prescribed 2mg, in the same qty. The next month we changed frequency. The third month I cut them in 1/2. The fourth month I was off. It really was not that hard. For a 3-4 days after the new lower dose Rx, I felt more pain and had looser BM's but that was about it. When I was on the dilaudid I needed to take a laxative. So I was able to go off of that, after the first change.

Of course it may be better , or worse for you but slow is not a bad way to go if you can get your doc on board to help.

There is a substance abuse forum here where you could get more tips if you have a harder withdrawel process or have to do it in a shorter time frame. Good luck!
