Fall directly on knee cap

Today I was walking inside from my lani and my left foot was wet, as I stepped in with that foot it started sliding forward (I was bascially going to do the splits) and I lost my balance and fell on the inside side of my right knee cap with my entire body weight!  It hurt but I was able to get up and walk around on it.  As the went on the pain got worse and worse and now anytime I walk on it or bend it, it pops.  The poping is uncofortable and will not stop.  I have but ice on it, it is swollen in several places but nothing horrible.  Since the pain is contiuing to get worse I didn't know if I should get an x-ray, I don't think anything is broken so I didn't know if I even needed one.  Has this happend to anyone else?  I am just really concerned about the poping and the pain of course!  I didn't know if I should give it a few days to see if it improves or to have it looked at tomorrow.  Thanks for any advice!
Kim

Thank you both for your replies!  I really appreciate them b/c I just didn't know what to do!  I know I have probably just bruised it but it is still hurting a lot and poping!  I am very accident prone and my body always takes a bit longer to heal!  I have been icing it even though it isn't swollen much, it still feels good to ice it!  I am trying to stay off it as much as possible which is a bit of a challenge when you have a 2 yr old!  I think I am going to get it looked at tomorrow just to be on the safe side.  It is also aching now in my thigh above my knee cap so who knows what I did!
Thanks again,
Kim

I second Sherry!  Get it looked at, a lot of things can go wrong in a knee.  I fell off a bicycle about 4 years ago directly on my kneecap as well.  It turned out I just had some pitting type damage to the cushioning cartilage on the bone, but it hurt and popped for a long time after.

Since then I have stuck to the stationary bicycle :-)

Hi Kim,

My Dear, if it were me I would DEFINITELY get it checked out JUST to be sure that putting weight on it won't harm it more in any way.

After all, it doesn't have to be broken to have damage to it.  :{

PLEASE let us know what you find out..............Sherry
