False Negative Drug Test

Hi,

My back was injured in a car accident in 2002 and in 2005 I suffered an accident whih left me disabled.  I have 6 herinated and bulging disk, stenosis of the spine, nerve damage and a permanently paralyzed leg.  In 2005 I was sent to a pain management doctor since I wasn't a candiate for surgery.  My doctor recently left pain management and referred me to another doctor.  The new doctor wanted a drug screen which I had no objections to.  He did give me my refills and said we would discuss the results of the test on the next visit.  On the next visit he informed me that my drug screen came back negative.  I had been out of the perocet for 2-3 days prior to seeing him but had used my fentanyl patch.  I asked him to check my back so he could see that I had it on but he refused.  The patch causes my back to show a red reaction for a couple of days after I change it so he could have seen that I had one on and where I had removed the old one.  He said I was selling the drugs or using them as a party favor.  Nothing could be further from the truth but I don't know how to convince anyone.  I tried seeing another doctor but he refused me as well.  PLEASE tell me that someone else has had this problem!!!!  And any advice for me please??

Thank you

This is insane, something needs to be done to correct this. How can doctors be so ignorant?

Wow Its like feeling this all over again. man this same thing happened. to me. I was on a 100 micro gram per hour pain patch (it takes 1000 micro grams to equil i milligram) I assume the test used was a Immunoassay test. that is a broud spectrum test for opites. That test has a minimum threshold, that means there has to be a certain level of the drug in your system B 4 it will flag an opite responce.AND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ONLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 6 %!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! of the fentanyl is excreated in the urine. So if you do the math, thats nowere nere enought to flag that responce. And the doctors kicked me out of there office also, and was also told to never come back. And that I was lucky they did`nt call the police. Well I was not going to lay down to that. there is evidence all over the internet that proves this. So I compiled all of my evidence (and I also called the people who make fentanyl and they totally agreeded with me) I took all of this to my EX doctors office, in an attemped to reason with them But B4 I got half way through the door I was told to lieve or they would call police.Needless to say I went and got A laywer. And he has all my evidence and after he looked it over, He allmost came unglued. He told me it is an open and shut case, and absolutey!!!!!!!!!!!! no grey area.I am telling you I have got them by the balls and they are going to pay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH BOY THEY ARE GOING TO PAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. You know I had to dig for the truth. And it was pretty easy to find it. And those doctors are supposed to know what there doing. And they did not know this.Well my lawer is gaurinteeing me at least 6 figures. Mainly because I tried once to show them the truth. And my lawer said this will be setteled out of court because they have dun it to other people. and they do not want the puplisity. Man do not sit and take this abuse. You only have a 2 year window of oppertunity to start a case(at least thats the law in IL.) please know that you have done nothing wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And try to make those basturds pay for all your suffering

Perhaps a more specific area of Georgia might help..county perhaps?  We don't want to identify you, Jen..just make it easier to help...

Yes, aging is no fun..I went to Georgia (Acworth, Kennesaw, Woodstock area) a month or so ago to visit my grandkids..didn't pack my deodorant (huh?? in mid august in Atlanta??) and forgot batteries for my camera and all sorts of stuff..and dang it...I almost forgot to come home!  Wanted to stay at my son's forever with my 4 yr old grandaughter on my lap.

and now Fall is just a few days away (sigh)..already getting cool in NH.

Thank you  Beargizmo
I totally missed that on the profile page!
My mind is definitely not as sharp as it used to be, I would have bet my life that I packed my shoes when I went to my sons and what do ya know they are still in my closet at home so I had to buy more. This aging thing really is annoying:(

I will look into Pm's in the Ga area and get back to you. I know of a few there and will see if they are accepting new Pt's.

Hi and I am so sorry this has happened to you. As you see from everyones post it is becoming way to common and there have been several people here with this problem. I can tell you to keep fighting and keep looking for another PM Dr and make sure the one who refused you KNOWS he/she HAS to treat you for thirty days or until you can find another DR!
If they give you any problems regarding this ask them if they are aware of the PT abandonment laws and let them know you are considering an attorney. I say this with the intent of making the Dr aware that you know your rights and not to be used as a tactic thats is unbecoming.
We should ALL know our rights and use them to help and protect us!
Where are you located? I will help you all I can, I did help another member here get treatment and everyone here helped her as well. She found relief and she had the same problem , a false negative.

Have you received a copy of the drug screening report?  not a letter from the doctor, but the actual lab report? if not DEMAND IT. IT is your right.  Also..most, if not all, states have a "patient abandonment law"..that they MUST give you 30 days to find a replacement doctor.   Discuss with your PCP..this has been attached to your records that he/she has and likely by now has worked it's way to any specialist you may have seen for any reason...my wife's records from her (now former) PCP read "DO NOT DISPENSE OR GIVE NARCOTICS" and that has filtered throughout the network to which her PCP belongs including hospitals, urgent care offices, various specialists, etc...they won't even see her...

Once you get the actual lab report read it carefully..likely the doctor scanned it and missed info that may have been on it...and discuss with your pcp assuming you haven't already..

I've been angry ever since I read this..as I said..the exact same thing happened to my wife...oh..and by the way..the doctor should have given you enough meds to taper off the percs if they were dropping you..2 weeks worth is what I've read..did they do that?

I think my wife's case is going to come out OK...please keep us posted on how things go with yours...we'll do all we can to help...this is totally outrageous.

This is YOUR reputation, integrity and future this doctor is messing around with.

Regards

Jim

Oh this stuff makes me so mad..and now I'm getting mad all over agan,,,you are in a similar position my wife was in (percocet...she ran out early for the same reason you did...wake up in the middle of the night in pain, etc) and had some vicodin from her dentist..a no no according to her pain contract, though she and her doctor VERBALLY agreed it was OK..just don't do it again..she had her test 3-4 days after her last perc and it was essentially gone from her system (a trace according to the report) and the vicoden, as the doc suggested showed up...however in a metabolic process is converted to dilaudid (can't remember the actual name)..and the doctor accused her of NOT using the percs and getting scripts (dilaudid) from somewhere else..she has NEVER IN HER LIFE TAKEN DILAUDID..we tried talking to him...wouldn't return calls/emails..anything..we had to finally call and threaten legal action before we actually got a copy of the report and it was obvious he had not finished reading the thing..

OK..do you have a PCP with whom you can discuss this? THAT is where your biggest support should come from..my wife's beleived her and tried to help but that turned into a ringaround the rosie nightmare..you need to work with that PCP to get your record straight...YOU HAVE THAT RIGHT...call the state medical board or if you are in a large network..call their medical director..you are clearly being mistreaeted here and as has been said..it happens all the time...

Please keep in touch in PM if you like...getting late and I need to hit the sack..

May God bless you and may He help you get this straightened  out..you (or no one)
deserves this injustice.

Hello Jenjakay,

Welcome to MedHelp. I am sorry to hear that you were released by your PMP.

I hear this story repeatedly on this forum. You have a long fight ahead of you. Once you are released from a PMP it is extremely difficult to be treated again. It is possible with time and perseverance. However it will take you sometime to find someone that will even see you. Unfortunately you have been labeled. There is hope I don't want to sound like doom and gloom.

Other members with more knowledge than I have about your options will post. There may be reasons your drug test came back negative. They will have the information and explanation for you.

Do you have any options available to you through you PCP for pain management at this point? Best of luck to you and take care, Tuck

Hello. I am so sorry that your Doctor has done this to you. He obviously has no regards for the pain your in. His bed side manne is to be desired. I too wear the Fentanyl Patch along with the Oxycodone and have run out of the Oxycodone maybe 1-3 days before the next refill but on RARE occasions. I have told my Doc this and even have expained to him that sometimes I need an extra pill at night or am's just to function. He totally understands this and tells me that once in a while is alright but not to make a habit of it. Your Doctor should be understanding given the injurys you've suffered.
PLEASE find another Pain Doc. Search high and low and don't stop til you find one.In my opinion, that Dr. has stepped out of line.

I think by law, he has to treat you until you find another one. Sandee will know more about this than I do. She will be here sometime tonight or tomorrow. ( I hope, I haven't seen her for a few days)

Please take care and hang in there....Keep searching....
