If Gabapentin is the cause of the edema (swelling) it should begin to reduce by the third day - reduce not clear up. Plz don't assume the edema is due to the Gabapentin - though it's probably the cause - there could be other issues causing the edema.
As mkh suggested, your husband's prescribing physician should be consulted - asap.
I wish you the best - and hope you'll let us know how he is doing.
Good Luck,

I don't know but I would consult your doctor on this.
my husband was put on Gabapentin and his feet started swelling really bad. He stopped taking it 3 days ago and his feet are still swollen. How long will it take for them to go down?
This is a very old thread regarding Gabapentin. I assume that is the drug that is being ordered for you at 400mg.
Pain and swelling of the extremities can be a side effect of the medication, Gabapentin. Some ppl develop side effects such as swelling while others do not. I encourage you to discuss this with your prescribing medical provider.
It's important to to determine what is causing the swelling. It may or may not be the Gabapentin. Only your PCP can help you uncover the cause.
Good luck to you.

If an antibiotic it sounds like an allergy. I would call your doctor if this came on when you started taking it. Any drug that causes swelling like that needs to be reported right away.

Which drug are you on?

I also have swelling really bad and was wondering how to get rid of swelling I started on on low dose now I take 400mg 4 times a day
Glad to hear you got off of the drug. You probably will be allegic to any drug in its class. I would ask about that. I'm so glad you are ok.

I just heard back from my doc & he told me to discontinue the meds cause I was having allergic reactions to them. Thank u both for ur advise
Do you have the generic baclofen (Kemstro) disintegrating tablets if so this contains the artificial sweetener aspartame-- this causes many people to have migraines. Also gabapentin contains sodium laural(th) sulfate (SLS) and you could be reacting to this (Also are you allergic to sulfa, as SLS is in the sulfa family.)
I hope this helps,

Thank u very much! I'll keep u up dated about what's going on.
hi again,
I just looked up the side effects of gabapentin (neurontin) and it says that swelling of the face and other body parts is a severe allergic reaction. You need to go to the ER or call you doctor right away.
let me know how you do when you can.

No it sounds like you are either have a bad side effect from gabapentin or are allergic to it. I took 1200mg a day for several months and had no side effects other than being tired and memory problems. I haven't taken baclofen, so i don't know the side effect of that drug. Usually, muscle relaxers don't give you that bad of a headache. You may want to try Flexeril or another muscle relaxer. I would call your doctor or go in to see him/her right away or go to the ER if you can't get in. I'm sure that if you call the doctors office they will tell you how to get off the drug and either to go in to them or to the ER.
take care,
