Hi Alex,
I'm sure this is very stressful for you. I'm sorry you have this. You need to have a neurologist give you a specific diagnosis. They can tell if you have MS from a MRI and your symptoms reflexes etc. They can diagnose the other possibilities as well. If you do have MS I suggest you get more info on the MS forum here on medhelp too.. There are many people on that site that have it and similar problems and can help you more than I can. I think your drugs will help too. I would ask them about your concerns and which type of disease it is since demyelinating is a broad term. THe most common though I believe is MS but that doesn't mean you have it versus another reason for the demylination of the nerves. I would try to ask the doctor that gave you the Neurontin (Gabapentin) for more info too. Of course you can still ask questions here if you prefer. I think but am not certain, that some MS patients are not so bad while others get more progessive disease over years. I think there are drugs to help slow it down and also make you feel better. You need more info. I am not an expert in this field. I hope this helps though.

I AM TOO WORRY I DO NOT KNOW HOW DANGER IS IT???????????????????////
THANK YOU VERY MUCH..............
THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH ...... I AM WORRY ABOUT demyelinating disease? WHAT IS IT
It should help with the demyelinating disease. When you have that your nerves tend to go haywire and fire off at will. It will send pain signals for no apperant reasons and your doctor may be thinking this is where your headaches are coming from. The gabapentin will help to slow the nerve impulses down and hopefully stop the headaches, if not at least control them a little better. It makes perfect sense for your doc to put you on a drug like this with that disease. Hopefully it will help you. Like the above poster said you have to start at a small dose and work your way up to the effective dose that suits you best. It will be trial and error until you find the right one, and sometimes you have to switch meds in the same category. There are several meds in that category that work really well and depending on your ins will make a big diff on which one you want to try first. Gabapentin is one of the older ones now, also Topamax and Lyrica. Lyrica is still one of the newer ones but works really well. I take Topamax and Lyrica. I take Topamax for headaches and Lyrica for neuropathic pain. My pain is well controlled but they do have their side effects.
Hi Alex1665,
Gabapentin is used for nerve related problems as well as other purposes. usually they give you a much higher dose. He/she may be going to taper you up. It should help with the nerve pain. Also, gabapentin works off label to slow you down and in the process probably have less stress with contributes to headaches and migraines. You should sleep better as well. So if you have headaches and demyelinating disease it may help.

It is a broad term for any disease of the nervous system that causes damage to the myelin sheath (protective covering that which surrounds the nerve fibers in brain and spinal cord). This causes problems with sensation, movement, cognition or other nerve functions. There are several diseases that cause this, the most commonly known one is MS ,but also vitamin B12 deficiency,Guillian Barr syndrome (peripheral nerves). Some chemicals can cause it too. I'm surprised your doctor didn't explain more about it or tell you which one you have. Hope this helps.
