How come when you possess 150 oxycodones the law thinks your going to sell your own meds? Nobody understand pain management !!

How come we can't fil our legal drugs and not feel like a criminal because the law
puts a street value higher than the pharmacy cost.  What sense does that make.
Just because other buy and sell their drugs does NOT mean others who take them
as directed do.

My question is should law enforcement and attorneys be privy to what WHAT FREAKING PAIN MANAGEMENT MEANS TO PEOPLE IN ACUTE/CHRONIC PAIN.  I just filled 150 oxycodones and feel like I did something wrong.
I should not feel this way.

As a pain patient I can relate. Even when you know 100% you are taking meds for pain only and taking them as described it doesn't help lessen the effects of being treated as a criminal when you are not one. Doctors, pharmacists, even well meaning friends often take the approach of assume you are trying to pull of some kind of scam, the guilty until proven innocent approach.

I know many do sell their scripts or abuse the prescribed drugs, but if the medical community continues to treat legitimate pain patients with unwarranted suspicion, pain patients are not going to be treated fairly and are not going to get the type of treatment they deserve. Even if we get meds we need, we often are treated like we are doing something very wrong. Knowing you aren't isn't enough to counteract being treated that way on a regular basis, especially when you're already contending with tons of pain.

Sorry for this rant, this is something that pisses me off. I feel for those who are addicted and do not blame them. I blame the medical industry and goverment regulations for acting as if everyone in need of pain meds is a potential addict who is going to abuse or sell their meds. Most pain patients do not become addicted and statistics back this up.

People should be treated with suspicious only if they act suspicously. Having pain is not a crime or an addiction.

I had one cop give me a problem. I got pulled for speeding. When I go out of town I don't carry my full prescribed bottles. I take what I need and stick them in any bottle.
I'm always worried I'll lose them and I'm not carrying a couple hundred pills. With all my brain fog, I lose stuff.

He saw the bottle and looked in it and took it and came back. Here came the questions...I could hardly get a word in to explain it. I had 3 kinds. I was out of state and told him to call my Doctor or Pharmacy.

I was even handcuffed why they searched my entire car. I wasn't arrested and was finally let go..It took over an hour to get someone to answer the stupid phone that day at my Doctor's office. I was then told to carry them in my prescribed bottle, so I just put them all in a large bottle and use my prescribed bottle to carry small amounts.

Actually agree with all posts.  I now use the pharmacy in my Dr.s Office and they treat me like any other customer.  My Dr. perscribes them for 90 days.  Due to the cost of them, I get 2 weeks at a time.  Once, when I was going away, I went to the pharmacist and asked for 2 more weeks.  He told me I was early, and would have to wait. I asked him early for what?  He told me I would have to wait 4 more days.  When I asked him on whose authority he made this decision he told me it was the law.  My Drs office had to call and have them released, it was such a waste of everybodys time and stress.  That is when I had my script transferred to the pharmacy in my Dr. building.  Good luck to all

I think you misread the post. Peamusela is not being prescribed 150 OxyContin, it's Oxycodone. There is a big difference between the two though similar medications.

I am glad that you took control of the situation with the accusatory physician. Everyone should do that and not allow untrue documentation to go into medical records.

I'm so sorry that your feeling this way. As others have asked, what happened to make you feel so bad about your prescription?

At times I have felt this way and it's only because a Pharmacist made me feel that way. It was how I was treated. Others that were picking up prescriptions got a smile and a good day from the Pharmacist...I received a stern look and a warning to be careful with that med. .....I never went back to the Pharmacy. I now use my clinics Pharm. and I couldn't be happier.

Try changing Pharmacies..it might make you feel better.
Warmest regards,
Mollyrae

I understand your thought process and how you need to deal with your pain but there are some CP sufferers that need more than 60 per month. The quantities all depend on what dosage the Doctor prescribes for you, for-instance, 2-5mg Oxycodone tabs would NOT be enough to keep the pain at bay for the entire day. You also must figure in the persons pain level and tolerance ( amount of time on the particular med) to justify the dosage.

I'm not saying that your comment is wrong, it's just that there are many things that need to be figured in before judgment is made.

Your Sister and her drug abuse has no doubt made you very cautious and leary of others that might take a higher dose of narcotics and that's ok.

We are all different and handle our medications in a different way.

Warmest regards,
Molly

I know how you feel people consider you an addict cause you are just going to a pain management.I have 5-6 MD's and they are great and I have told them all that some people @ the pharmacy treat & look @ you differently when you pick uo your meds. The people that abuse them even makes people like us that need them look bad.I wish the DEA could do more about opiate abuse!!Tell them you would gladly take a blood, urine, or even lie detector test to prove them wrong.I always lock mine in a safe!

Unfortunately I have a sister that would steal, sell and take handfuls of those oxycontins.  It's people like her that make  chronic pain people like us have such a difficult time. I had a doctor get so angry and accuse me of coming to see him to get pain meds.  I was in so much pain at that moment but I was able to angry enough I walked out of his office right in to the office managers office and insisted very loudly that she, he and I meet asap.  I explained what happened, his reaction and I demanded an apology.  They explained to me so many people come in and lie to get pain pills. I told them I didn't care about those people and from my medical records they could see I was not that person.  He was having a bad day and lost it on me.  Had I not reacted to what he did, he would of very nicely documented my file that I was there to get pain meds.  Instead I asked that our conversation be placed in my file.  So it's not you alone trust me.  And I have been in a few forum's even on medhelp I can tell how people word things if they are working on just getting pills or if they really need them.  I lived with a sister for 30 years who abused pills, alcohol, and then heroin.  She even fakes pain now to make an excuse to take anything she can.
I've NEVER had a doctor give me any more than 60 oxycontin at a time so I'm not sure how you have so many at once.
I can tell you I had so much guilt over my pain and taking pain medication I went to counseling. I saw a chronic pain counselor.  She was excellent. She made me realize there is so much out there that make people like doctors, law enforcement question but those of us in actual pain have NO reason to feel any shame or guilt.
I hope this helps.

If you take your narcotics as prescribed do not let someone else make you feel guilty for requiring pain management medications. I am sorry that this has happened to you.

Most ppl don't get it unless they have been there, including law enforcement. Do you want to share what happened to make you feel this way?

Why do you feel that way? Did someone say something to you when you picked up your script?
