Is this normal?

Hello all,

Let me get some fact's out before I go ranting on my story.
After reading some post's I need to say the following:

1. I am not a drug addict. I, like a lot of people in the 80's smoked some Marijuana, but today, I'm a stock broker for Goldman Sachs. I turned out okay. I haven't smoked Marijuana or anything for that matter for about 14 years.
2.I'm 37 years of age.
3. I'm not on here seeking for ways to find drug's online, only want your help In dealing with some issues.
4. I live with my mother, (not a huge fact) Let's just say she's strict.
5. Don't go yelling about me for living with my mom, She's elderly and I'm here to take care of her. All of you young folk's will have to do the same at some point. Well, at least you should.

Let  me go on about my current issues:

Three weeks, ago. (Monday, March 3rd 2008) now almost a month ago.

I had all my wisdom teeth removed. For some reason they were all "impacted" meaning they had to cut into the jaw t get them out. This is normally not the case for a guy like myself. Usually they'd be grown In, or would have caused a lot of pain long ago, and been removed then. Not  in this case though... Anyway, I was prescribed Vicodin, by my regular dentist on (Thursday Feb, 28th 2008) because I went there complaining they hurt, It was also time for my regular cleaning. After my dentist looked at my teeth heard me talk about my pain, he took x-rays and said, "Son, it's time to get these suckers out" I said, "Alright" and made an appointment to get them out. It was on the following Monday, The 3rd of March. I got them out by a different doctor, a doctor who specializes in Maxofollical surgery (surgery of the jaw). He took all four of them out, and prescribed me Oxycodone, (Percocet) (?) Anyway, that's what the label on the medicine bottle says. Any how, I was in a lot of pain the first week, and was fine with the oxycodone,  by the second week, I had developed an infection (Due to not earigating the holes of the extraction site well enough) after getting a little bad talk from the doctor, he said he's have to go in and clean them out, Surgically. Well, he did, I then got more oxycodone, (I'll tell you the amounts at the bottom) and that helped a lot. Now, Last monday, (three weeks from the first surgery) I went in complaining that it still hurt. Told him I was out of my pain medication and in which he gave me more. Well, It's now Saturday evening, and I'm sitting here with my girlfriend and In quite a bit of pain. I woke up this morning to find that my right side was very swollen, (almost like how it was the first surgery) i looked like a "chip monk" Nothing cutier i'd say. Well, being concerned as I was, I called my doctor again. And he said: "Well, just earigate the right side real well, and try to get whatever food that got caught up in there out. If it hurts on monday, call me" well, okay. Fair enough, I earigated, rinsed my mouth out with mouth wash and went on my way. I still had my Vicodin from my first visit from the dentist so I thought i would take that for the pain. Well, after taking a couple of them, (following the directions of course) I started feeling really bad, pretty much like I have a bad flu. I do have a bit of a fever but that might be from the infection, who knows! My final question for you is this:

On monday, would it be okay for me to ask for some more Oxyocodone? Or will the doctor think I'm a drug addict just seeking pain pills? Does it normally still hurt after a month? Or is my brain telling my self otherwise? I don't know. I just want your advice as soon as possible.

Lists and quantity of all drugs prescribed to me:

1. Vicodin (can't tell you the dosage, but I was prescribed 25, I now have 10 left)
2. Amoxicillin- For the swelling prior to surgery. I had 50, Finished all of them
3.Cephacillin- for the Infection after the surgery. I had 50 of them. Finished all of them.
4.Percocet.

first dosage (right when i had the surgery) 30.
Second Dosage, (after i was done with the 30) 45.
Third dosage, (after i was done with the 45) 25.
fourth and final dosage, (after i was done with the 25) 25.

total Oxycodone tablets: 155

I started tappering down the dosage last week, took one every 5 hours, instead of every 3 hours.  Ran out yesterday morning.

Please tell me what to do, or if this is normal. Has this been a problem for you? I thank you for the people who care. And anyone who reads my story.

One more question: Should I go to the ER tomorrow if my problem gets worse? Do you think they'd be able to write me a prescription? Or would they tell me to just take OTC pain relievers?

I don't know.

-Thank you all.

I'd be less concerned about the pain and more concerned about infection. Your mouth is awfully close to your brain and I'd be worried about getting meningitis (spelled wrong I know). Yeah that would probably never happen, but you want to make sure it doesn't. Get the infection under control. I'd start asking for antibiotics instead of pain pills from your doctor. And if he keeps blowing you off about it go to a different doctor. The infection could get into your jaw bone, etc...and if it does it will be even harder to treat and they may have to start removing infected tissues that may have died.

I know it hurts!! Go to the ER they usually do give pain meds for that then make sure you tell your denist mon when you tell him your still in pain.
There are so many things you can get from this. One is TMJ where your jaw and face hurt ask the dr about it.

Hi,
Do you think you could be Allergic to Codeine or Penicillin or both?

I had a double root canal years ago that is when I found out I was allergic to both.

My sinus area became so inflamed it took a few weeks before the inflamations where under control.
